I got this gokart used for the little ones.Tecumseh 5hp OHH50 engine.I pulled the carb and it was in very bad shape,so I bought a new one.Have installed it and it will crank on first pull,but will only rev up very little then dies.This is the case on and off the blocks.

I put the new carb on it because the previous owner said throttle would stick wide open.

try adjusting the idle screws on your carb (Little screws on side of carb), until you can get it to idle nicely

It only has an idle speed adjustment.It will idle fine,all day.When giving it gas it will rev up a little,keep going with the gas and will die.

is it the right carb? sounds like its running rich to me.

I used the owners man... to get the part #.Ordered it from outdoordistributors.com.Looks and fits just like the original.I'm not sure.

Is your throttle linkage set up correctly?

Does it have a choke, primer button, or both?

sounds like its 1 of these 3 thinks, lean,rich,air leak.
Did you replace the intake gaskets?

linkage is as it was when i got it,No choke just primer button,did replace the carb gasket but not the intake.spark plug is black and dry

the gaskets between the carb and intake and between the carb and air filter housing are new

Besides the throttle sticking, did it run fine with the old carb?
How old is your gasoline? It can start going bad after 3 months or so.

Do you have the filter on? Both of the screws need to be in the carb because one has an air circuit behind it.

Try to slowly pulse the primer as you try to rev it and tell us what happens.

I had to take the tank off to replace starter rope. I drained and rinsed out the tank w/gas when I first got it. Yes,it did run fine till it sat up for a year. After I got it,changed oil,starter rope,gas,still would not run,took off carb n it was very gunked up,thats when i put the new carb on it. Now it will start on first pull after two pumps on the primer button,will idle all day if I let it. But will only barely rev up when opening the throtle(fast or slow) then dies.

when I pump the primer with the throtle open it will rev up ONLY but goes back to bogging down or choking after that shot of gas is gone.

Main jet is plugged or out of adjustment, as soon as you add air it goes lean and dies.

Other far less likely options are your needle valve is plugged or you're not getting fuel to the carb (hose kinked, filter plugged).

sounds like your carb is to rich if this is a new carb with no adjustments then all you can do is change the jet or you can adjust the float level

Another thing,the cable from the brake to the governor arm was broke. I'm thinking this is why the throtle stuck on `em. I changed it as well.

I have adjusted the float up and down several times with very little to no results,it's currently back to manufactors specs.

defiantly rich, can you take pics of the carb? Also how's the exhaust on this thing?
