Its the shadows that make the wheels look wierd.

The wide tires were nice... but they were so rotted that they would leak down in 2 days...through the cracks (yikes!)

The tires I have now are just as wide as the last ones. The wheel offset just pulls the tires closer to the frame which is good because the front tires actually ran completely inside of path that the rear tires run.

Some more final final touches made tonight.

first off.... LIGHTS!!!! :D I added a pair of Harbor Freight special cheapo 55W halogens. Not the best but hey... super cheap since they are prone to breaking.

Then I made a nice upgrade to my spindle/knuckles. I changed my bolt out to a grade 8 bolt. I also bought one with a longer shoulder to accommodate the hardened washer fix that I made.
Note: You need to make sure that your pivots are on the shoulder, and the shoulder proceeds past any point of shear.

My new bolt is long enough to use a jam nut so I can preload my "C"/spindle to an appropriate amount.

Now for the obligatory pictures:

Some videos. Sorry about the quality... Photobucket puts these through super compression. They are nice on my hard drive.

Hit the corner a little hard on this one and jolted the camera

Omg! That's just scary! You are going fast! Woow!

Awesome build! I love the green and the epic engine! Have a lot of fun with it!
Btw, is there anything that you would do different in the future? The kart looks a little tight with you in there. :roflol:

The kart is a slightly snug fit but then again I'm 6'3"... I expect that. My buddies fit really well.

One nice thing is that I can brace myself against the frame for support during bumpy conditions.

Being a compact vehicle makes it predictable and agile.

If I were to do anything different in the future I would probably incorporate some sort of suspension. The ride is good but bumpy. Off road will rock your rocks out. Haha

that's a little high, being 4.8:1. you might wanna gear lower for more torque - like 6:1 or even 7:1 (70 tooth rear sprocket to 10 tooth clutch sprocket). then you'll be doing donuts and climbing crazy hills. sure, your top speed will drop, but it's totally worth it for the power boost!

you can mess with the governor after fixing your gear ratio for a few more RPMs (search the forum for recomended RPMs for your motor without flywheel upgrade), which will gain you back some of the speed lost. then you'll have torque AND speed!

Yeah, I know its a little high, but the frame clearance Im dealing with wont allow a bigger gear on the axle. Its a tight squeeze haha.

Remember, these engines make max power at lower RPM. a 5hp engine spools up higher than this thing will. Plus, since I bypassed the govenor the steep gearing keeps the RPM down safe. This thing takes off pretty well as is, so Im not too worried about it.

I would like to lower the gearing a bit, but it would be a complete reconstruction.

Thanks for the info, I'm pondering putting my Briggs Twin in front of a 3-speed gearbox with basically 3:1, 2:1, and 1:1 gears. A 3:1 final drive would then give 9:1 overall in 1st gear, 4:1 would be 12:1 in 1st, etc.
With 14" tires that'd be stump-pulling with some pretty long legs in 3rd gear... With taller yerf-dog-like tires I dunno, have to play with the calculator...

For those of you who have seen my build....

Do you think that asking $1200 for this cart is totally outrageous and crazy?

(I build things then sell them... its what I do haha)

Just wanted a little input.

BTW.. now that it has warmed up, this thing runs FLAWLESS. I must have had it a little lean in the winter. (Didnt drive it much anyways)

So I have been doing some research and found that they make an 8 tooth sprocket for the 410 pitch. This would put me at a 6:1 instead of 4.8:1.

the problem with such a small sprocket is that the chain will have a higher tendency to slip over it. if your small and large sprocket are farther apart it helps a bit. it's usually better to get a larger axle sprocket or make a jackshaft. you can try it (they're cheap) and see how it holds up.
