I can send ya 5 lbs of steel balls, if ya want.
Hey T,

I'm open to anything that "gets the job done" :cheers2:

Still "baffles" me as to "why?"
...so, I'ma maybe bend a few "test pieces" with the seam in different orientations

Like, straight up ~12:00
...around 45* or ~1:30
...sideways ~3:00
...around 45* or ~4:30
...& straight down ~6:00
&
Will report...back

In the meantime/while I'ma doin' that, here is a video with lots more low speed aero info (top speed ~80KPH or ~50MPH)

The FSAE racer, in the video has
...rear wheel drive
...an inboard motor
...no traction control
...&/or stability control (same as my racers) ;)

* Notables to watch for
Low speed aero DF @~1:10
Tire deflection @~3:15
Easy car to drive @~5:50
Aero DF not really noticeable @~6:15
Tire deflection (commentary) @~6:45
No fitted seat (commentary) @~6:57 (see why a fitted seat is...better)
Leg bruises (commentary) @~7:05 (the driver was trying to "brace" himself, with his legs, due to a non-fitted seat)

Aero interview :geek:
Nose aero @~10:00
Side pod aero @~15:00
Rear wing aero @~16:00
Diffuser aero info @~18:00

More of "The Weave"

* Bouncin' around & try-n-ta-cover several different topics
...then, try-n-bring 'em all together, in the end :sifone:

I saw this in Possom Point's Mini monster truck rebuild
...& kinda like the "molded in" seat concept
SAM_6731 (2).JPG
Thinkin' I might try-n-incorporate it into, the cockpit of, the monocoque, that I'ma workin' on ;)
SAM_6696 (2).JPG
* Not the curvy inner fenders
...just the seat ;)

Seems "doable" :cheers2:

Hey Hellion,

I remember ya askin' about BMI Karts shipping fees (a while back)
...but/then/later, I couldn't find the thread/post again

*I'ma gettin a bit "fluffier" (technical term) than I was o_O
...so, I had ta order a larger seat
...& I got another set of spindles too
SAM_6734 (2).JPG
Totals (shipping ~$20.00)
SAM_6735 (2).JPG
Got 'em in this box (coffee cup for size reference)
SAM_6736 (2).JPG

Being that your fluffier now are you sure that 5/8” spindles are going to be enough?
Hey Denny,

I'ma just a little fluffier
...gettin' that "dad" bod
...kinda "creeped up" on me
...if ya know what I mean o_O

Did some "napkin" calculations
...& yup, them 5/8 spindles, should still "be good" enough :smartass:

Change (1) thing
...& it "throws" other things "off" (technical term):mad2:

Of course, a wider seat
...doesn't "fit" in the "wooden model"

Warning:
Unnecessary jabberin' :innocent::devil2:

I'ma thinkin' about narrowing "sponces" down to ~4" wide
...from the current ~12" wide
&
I'ma thinkin' about narrowing the front of the "sponces" down to ~2" wide
...from the "soon to be" ~4" wide "sponces"
&/also
I'ma thinkin' about widening the rear of the "sponces" up to ~10"
...wide from the "soon to be" 4" wide "sponces"

* I'ma thinkin' that by angling the "inner walls" inwards
...makin' the rear ends of the "sponces" kinda "horn" shaped
...should help the air, flowing thru the tunnels, to expand while exhausting out/behind the racer
&/of course
Widening the "seating area"
...kinda like this illustration/drawin'

I heard someone ask "Why did ya switch to MDF & why did ya have the shop cut 'em up for ya?"

A:
1.) Splinters & trueness

Because plywood is made outta real wood
...it produces splinters (very irritating)
...& (sometimes) it's kinda "wavy"

Whereas MDF doesn't produce splinters
...& it (usually) stays "truer" (technical term for not wavy) :cheers2:

2.) Convenience (pick your battles)

Manually running a (or a couple of) full size 4' x 8' sheets of plywood/MDF
...thru a table top/portable Table Saw isn't easy :ack2:

Especially outdoors on a windy, winter day
...&/so, for $13.00 dollars ($1.00 per cut)
...I "delegated" that work out

I "skinned" the outer sides
...before addin' the horizontal "fins"

*So, I could "lay 'em flat"
...ta finagle (technical term) the 1/4"MDF around the curves

The top "sponce" has already been "skinned"
...& then, flipped over ta show ya ;)

* Notice I added some extra "backing" behind & just before where the outer "skin" was to bend

This was give me more area
...for "drawing down" & securing (glue & nails) the "skin", to the sub-assembly
...to help manage &/or eliminate any natural "bowing" of the panel, around the curve :2guns:
SAM_6763 (2).JPG
Movin' on/next up, was ta make these horizontal "fins"
SAM_6760 (2).JPG
Here's the plan (pretty simple...really)
SAM_6761 (2).JPG
Left "sponce" has its inner skin installed
...but, haven't done the right "sponce" yet...ta show ya...the "innards" :cheers2:
SAM_6764 (2).JPG
Both "sponces" are/have been "skinned"
...& here's about how they will be set up :innocent::devil2:
