You reckon correctly. One would reference a Comet 40 belt chart, and position the shaft to correspond with one of the "on center" measurements- and then use the specified belt.

all the jackshaft kits ive found online for 3/4" are 3/16" keys when I need 1/4" keys

From what I can see, there is no 3/4" jackshaft with a 1/4" keyway... Can anyone second this?

No not a kit, need to get a shaft milled with the keyway of 1/4".

What part needs the 1/4" keyway anyways?

nevermind, the guy online made mistake. Its actually 3/16", so I am all good.

Ok cool. Get sprockets with that bore size, get some key stock, pillow block w/ right bore size, shafting with a key way. There will be misc. bits you will need to make the support for that, but just keep to the instructions already posted, and keep us updated.

That oughta do it. the combination will give you an 8.4:1 overall reduction ratio.

Just to double check- you are using #40 chain currently, right?

If you purchase the above kit, then, no. You weld those big washers in place, and install the bearings in them directly.

I said get the pillow blocks, as they are adjustable in may ways also they are more sturdier then the bearings you have there in that kit. One main point, they are self aligning.
With the washers setup, you have to set up all of the bearings on the shaft w/bearings and have to weld that setup on the machine, all with the good potential of arcing your bearing making this almost mute. In the end I reckon you will save money and time with the pillow blocks.

Some pillow block bearings have built-in lock collars, some don't. If not, just go get a couple of lock collars.

There's no real threat of arcing across the bearings as long as you don't weld on the shaft, or connect the work clamp to the shaft.

I do agree with the superiority of the pillow blocks when it comes to setup and alignment.

No. Pillow blocks get bolted down. You will have to weld some flat bar, angle, plate or something to the frame, to bolt them to.

You wouldn't have much fun welding them anyway. They tend to be cast.

Ok sweet. Sounds like a plan. Just ordered everything so whenever it all gets here Ill install everything and let yall know how it goes.

I merely pointed out the potential, as the slip of the stinger to the shaft will arc the bearings, oh and the danger of having them ruined by spatter just even tacking the washer hangers too.
So if this the route, be aware..
