They are all within 10% of each other in terms of power and torque. Reliability/quality is also very close assembler to assembler. This is because there are only 3-4 part manufacturers all working off the Honda Manufacturing prints. The assembly houses then buy the parts and put the motors together.

So, as long as you are buying from an assembler that builds in volume (successful), then buy according to price. Harbor Frieght will get to $129 fairly often, but you might hear about $99 ones at some locations due to inventory reduction, or liquidation of previous models. Lots of people sell these engines.

There is a good market for upgrades on the 196cc clone engines that are the 6.5HP models.

Tyler,

Look at the EPA sticker on the engine and see who the manufacturer is. I have a black clone, I wonder if they are the same Assembler. Mine was an import from China, so no rebranding.

I think the red clones are best, then blue, then yellow, but i may be wrong.

On paper, the Red and white clone has the most power and torque. I am still trying to determine this. Most people think the Yellow engine has the most and they are getting to be as prolific as the Blue. I should have some data on a Yellow verus Red and White soon.

I have a black, and it has the best breather element I have seen on a clone (washable foam) but it does not feel as powerful as the others. Tough to tell with only one example though. Excellent build quality.

i have the one Tylers talking about and the sticker is "Power Fist", Princess Autos in house brand. I'm not sure about the EPA thing but it does have a washable foam filter.

Most EPA stickers are on the engine shroud just below the on/off switch, but for some reason, mine is on the air filter cover. Makes any clone engine only a hand nut away from being EPA certified.

My Black Clone is a Shandong Huasheng.

I think the kart racers (the big money ones) are using the Yellow Clone as their "Box Stock" standard. In the article posted about the Clone Build-Up, (LOVE IT!) the person used a Box Stock, which I'm ASSuming is a Yellow Clone. If so, pretty impressive motor. I'd be happy if the other clones do as well.

These clones are all made with the same tooling as hondas. One difference is a clone has crank bushing instead of bearing.

The GX200 clone does NOT utillize a crank bushing. Its a dual bearing crankshaft. Not sure what clone you've been working on. And its the coil dropping onto the flywheel and not the points as this is a CDI pack or Capicitor Discharge Ignition.
