Can't wait to see some clones of this Go-ped TRQ Trail Ripper.

The suspension setup is 4 Polyurathene round bars inside the 4 corners of a piece of square tubing and another smaller square bar slid diagonally in between the the poly bars. The poly absorbs the pressure of the twist in the inner square bar and bounces back. Looks like it works realy good.

According to the go-ped site this thing will handle 400lbs of adult and has 10" of suspension travel. 11" tires, live axle, disc brakes . $1454.88 from go-ped.

Not exactly, no plastic to be found here (except for the seat). It uses a torsion spring, similiar to what you might find on a garage door. The Front suspension and rear suspension arms are tubular steel, and connected to the frame of the kart through the torsion spring. The upward movement of the arm coils or uncoils the spring in the square joint.

I have seen them up close. The engine is a 49cc 2 stroke, is listed to have 4.5HP. It has no torque, and it sounds like it would wear out the clutch in a matter of days. Fairly expensive as well, but they did one thing right, the suspension is novel and the thing is fairly light and compact.

Hugh, I stand corrected. That's what I get for listening to the sales guy I guess. I swear I saw a spring in there, but it has been a few months.

There are lots of vidoes on Youtube for the trail ripper. It is a shame it is so expensive, but I guess that rubber in the suspension is pricy.........

I would love to try and build one of them. The idea of a very compact off road go kart appeals to me enormously. I just wish i could see some more comprehensive instructions to try and guess what building one would really cost...

Yea, would be more durable and would allow more travel. Plus you could make it a bit longer and wider to lower the COG.

I think you may be right, and with a couple of mods (like the coilovers Kenny mentioned) it could even be better than the original. A person could probably buy some 1 1/4" mild steel tubing and a Harbor Freight tubing bender and probably build a fairly close replica.

You can buy Urethene bars for pretty cheap on the net. If you look at the diagram its pretty simple design. Way over priced to buy new.
