I was planning on using it to power a pecan cracking machine I built a few years ago. I just haven't had the time to mess with it.

I saw the David Bradley decal on it which means it was a Briggs sold under the Sears David Bradley brand of agricultural, lawn and garden equipment to include chain saws, garden tractors, walk behind tractors/tillers, even a rudimentary go kart.

Even flatheads from the 80s like mine I find interesting.
txluke, is it very hard to find parts for those really old engines?

There are a few groups on Facebook that are all about restoring old engines. You can usually find something there or on Ebay. If it is something that is broke beyond repair you just donate its organs to others to keep theirs going.

Any thing with plastic cams I tend not to trust and try to find a cast iron or forged replacement cam and timing gear.



Also I was able to find parts for some old engines on partstree.com as long as you have the engine code and serial number the site is easy to use for instance I was able to get all the parts I need for around $162$ to basically rebuild my 1975 briggs and stratton 8horse.

Man, those are crusty and weatherbeaten. I don't think I'd accept any of them as my standards are rather high.

Those blower covers would need a lot of work to cover up the pitting. Got any secrets?

The crust is a must! My plan is to part some of them out. The valves, springs, and steel cam are sought after by people wanting to do a hopped up 3.5 "Raptor Jr." build. These valves are not dished and the cam isn't plastic. I am working on some intakes so I can toss the carb and tank and run a little pz19 carb. I guess at least 1 of them are fit to return to life. The reason I said "old engine fairy" and not "Briggs fairy" was because of that last one. I also got a few crusty motorcycles and a scooter. He said next week he will bring another trailer of stuff over. It is free so I will take whatever and call the scrap metal guy to come get what I don't want.

If the scrap metal guy doesn't give cash in return, consider selling them on the usual places, craigslist, OfferUp, LetGo, etc.

Those have value, believe me.

Im sure its been done but i dont know how much bigger you can go while your engine is apart i would take mesurements of your "wiggle room" if there is room id say go for it.

It's possible for sure. It'll take a small fortune in special tools to do it. But big valve and seats were pretty common. Dual valve springs with split keepers too.

The head will require clearancing, or just get this one.
