If you want to know what your model number means.

I've actually got B&S's official Numerical Designation Guide file, and it's nice and easy to read.
If anyone wants a copy of the file, they can PM me and I'd be glad to send it to 'em.
I also have a printed version, which I also added to my particular engine's parts manual.
Real nice to have a parts guide when I don't have access to the Web.

I don't see why people have a hard time finding old Briggs motors. I just started asking everyone I saw if they knew where I could find one. I picked up 4 and have 5 or 6 that I can get when I want. All for free. Some were junk, some ran. The key is asking everyone. Someone will have one. Last week I got in contact with a guy that lives down the road. His best friend growing up was into kart racing and his briggs were built by A. J. Foyt's son. I hope that he kept some stuff and is willing to part with it.

My newest addition. I picked it up for $20. I am building a 3.5hp "raptor jr" for my kid's mini bike. I got a 3.5 with a ball bearing cover and no internal governor. The cam is plastic and the valves are dished. The 2hp had a steel camshaft and flat valves so I am going to swap them over.

My 3 HP was $30. Not a terrible deal, but I still need to fix the spark problem.

Hey txluke: Can you post some pics of your 1955 Model 6?
Would love to see all the pertinent details--shape of the block, cylinder head (cooling fins), flywheel, what it looks like with the blower removed.

Wait, who unlocked the tool shed?

Join the group "Briggs and Stratton performance and fun" on facebook. They really know their stuff.

I am not going anywhere near Faceberg again. Tried to log into my old account and it was asking me to verify my identity by calling some "friends" they had selected for me...and asking them verify me or something.

Like, FOOL, I don't know their numbers! They're Failbook friends!

Furthermore, Faceberg is just not a good place nor format for a discussion forum, sad to say. It's just not optimized for that.

The groups are awesome places to get and share info. Sometimes you have to weed out the trolls. It is way quicker and easier than posting on here. I will get you some pics this evening if I can.

Here are a few pics. This is the first time I have taken the blower housing off. It and the motor were full off mud dauber nests.
