Great site here guys.Theres lots of interesting projects here.Recently a guy from work brought in a MiniBike frame that needed some welding done to it.I am a professional welder by trade.I worked 15 years in the pipefitters trade welding pipe on construction projects.I then became a welding instructor for 4 year at the local community college. As work is real slow with the pipefitters & the welding instructor job was'nt paying enough i now work at a factory fabricating & welding pressure vessels & the associated piping.Anyway enough bragging on my welding ability.I got on the net and started searching for MiniBikes and found the Azusa MiniBike kit. This is what i wanted-something to build from a box of parts with the old school look of mini's from the 60's & 70's.I ordered the Azusa mini kit,a Tecumseh PowerSport 5HP engine & a MaxTorque centrifugal clutch. Two days later i had a mini to build. After mocking up the engine i realized the kit supplied foot pegs were not going to work per the instructions. The engine was too wide to be able to get my feet on the pegs.I measured & fabbed a piece of 3/4" black pipe with some 3/8" flat stock on the ends for the foot pegs to mount to.It laid perfectly in thr space just front of the engine mounting plate.I made 2-2" welds to hold the foot peg bar in place. Now i could begin the primer/paint step of the build. After power brushing the factory weld to remove any splatter and smoke residue i gave the frame a quick wipe down with acetone to remove any oils & film.Ready for paint.I primed & painted the frame & fork assembly with Rustoleum rattle can enamel. The color is SunRise Red.After letting the paint dry for two days it was time to assemble this thing.(It was a long two days). The assembly was a breeze.Everything went together rather well.I had no issues with any of the parts or hardware. This is a very well thought-out MiniBike kit.I would highly suggest it to anyone looking for a minibike kit.As you can see in the photo's i have done some other mods with the exhaust-airfilter & rear drive sprocket.I am extermely impressed with the power the Tec 5HP engine has.I am estimating the speed in the 35-40 MPH range.Being 40 yrs. old i am like a kid all over again ripping up & down the street & bombing around the yard on my new "RED" minibike.Enjoy!!!:cheers2:

Great looking mini...! I'm wanting to do the same thing, but use a TAV-2 instead of a centrifugal clutch. That frame looks like it would easily have the clearance for it...

Thanks for the compliments guys.Anyone can build this set-up if they take there time and understand the directions.Waiting for the fresh paint to dry was the worst part of the build.:toetap05:

With your kit, what size tires/ wheels did you opt for? I noticed several different sizes are offered thru the website...

I used the 5" set-up.I thought i should have went with the 6" because the stock 72T rear sprocket would make contact with the ground on left-hand turns. There was only about 1" of clearance between the outside of gear & outside of tire.Look at the rear tire & gear in the pic.Thats the stock 72T gear. The bike had a ton of low end torque with the 72T drive gear.I bought a brake hub/sprocket mount made by Azusa and installed a Horstman 60T split gear. The bike runs good on the top with still enough low end to pull the front wheel.I may try a 58T and call it good.

The engine I want to use is a Briggs Intek 5.5. It's 16" tall... With that frame, what type of clearance are you looking at? Probably a better question is; how tall is your Tecumseh?

Thanks for sharing your story about the Azusa Mini Bike Kit, and the pics that go along with your project...In a few weeks, I will be ordering my Azusa 8" kit from OMB Warehouse, and to be honest, I am a little intimidated by building my first Mini Bike....I did purchase a Greyhound 6.5 hp engine from Harbor Freight this evening...it's my first step....
May I ask a stupid question? When you receive the Azusa kit, are there instructions that go along with it? Or, do you just have to have the knowledge in putting one together?
I appreciate any input that would be helpful....thanks!

Hey all-thanks for the compliments. The directions are included with the bike-but they are not very good.Alot of trial & error.I would suggest putting it all together before you paint the frame to familiarize yourself with the assembly process. Then tear it down and primer & paint it.

***RiderZ***Thanks for the heads up on the directions / instructions for the Azusa Kit...I will take your advice and do the build without painting it first, find out what's going on with all the parts, etc., then paint and build....SushiDog
