Great site here guys.Theres lots of interesting projects here.Recently a guy from work brought in a MiniBike frame that needed some welding done to it.I am a professional welder by trade.I worked 15 years in the pipefitters trade welding pipe on construction projects.I then became a welding instructor for 4 year at the local community college. As work is real slow with the pipefitters & the welding instructor job was'nt paying enough i now work at a factory fabricating & welding pressure vessels & the associated piping.Anyway enough bragging on my welding ability.I got on the net and started searching for MiniBikes and found the Azusa MiniBike kit. This is what i wanted-something to build from a box of parts with the old school look of mini's from the 60's & 70's.I ordered the Azusa mini kit,a Tecumseh PowerSport 5HP engine & a MaxTorque centrifugal clutch. Two days later i had a mini to build. After mocking up the engine i realized the kit supplied foot pegs were not going to work per the instructions. The engine was too wide to be able to get my feet on the pegs.I measured & fabbed a piece of 3/4" black pipe with some 3/8" flat stock on the ends for the foot pegs to mount to.It laid perfectly in thr space just front of the engine mounting plate.I made 2-2" welds to hold the foot peg bar in place. Now i could begin the primer/paint step of the build. After power brushing the factory weld to remove any splatter and smoke residue i gave the frame a quick wipe down with acetone to remove any oils & film.Ready for paint.I primed & painted the frame & fork assembly with Rustoleum rattle can enamel. The color is SunRise Red.After letting the paint dry for two days it was time to assemble this thing.(It was a long two days). The assembly was a breeze.Everything went together rather well.I had no issues with any of the parts or hardware. This is a very well thought-out MiniBike kit.I would highly suggest it to anyone looking for a minibike kit.As you can see in the photo's i have done some other mods with the exhaust-airfilter & rear drive sprocket.I am extermely impressed with the power the Tec 5HP engine has.I am estimating the speed in the 35-40 MPH range.Being 40 yrs. old i am like a kid all over again ripping up & down the street & bombing around the yard on my new "RED" minibike.Enjoy!!!
