OK then, maybe its the high revving (10,000+) while not moving quickly that does it, but they CAN overheat that's what I'm getting at.

like as in 3 forward and revers
Usually 4 forward speeds. Bike engines don't often have reverse. If it's a quad bike it might be 3 forward, and reverse but usually they are 5 speed with the standard 4 forward + reverse.

I agree with Russ. A engine should never overheat no matter what the cirumstances are. Even my The head on my dragster will stay at 180 F no matter how long you idle it for.
