Hello all!

Let me start this by saying I have read through a bunch of predator help me threads before posting my own so please don't think this is laziness, on the the issue at hand.

I purchased a new predator 212 at hf the other day and before installing in my son's go kart I figured I would pull the governor, looks simple enough. Welp sure enough the cam came out with the cover. So after reading the forms I found the info needed to re-time the cam and reinstall, what I didn't realize was that the push rods would also need to be reinstalled, obviously the engine wouldn't start, so I continued reading the form and found oh yeah I need to pull the valve cover and reinstall the push rods (duh) so I did just that, and adjusted lashing to .003. I've pulled the **** thing 100 times and she still won't fire, sounds like it wants to and every once in a while will even burp like it's starting to fire then just dies off. I tired disconnecting the oil switch with no change in results. I'm lost on this one? Is it possible that I have it timed on the exhaust stroke and not the compression stroke? Yes I suppose so but I actually tried testing that by pulling the cam and spinning the engine 180 and reinstalling the cam and not only would it not fire, but with this when I pulled the plug it was soaking wet so I pulled the cam again and reinstalled on what I believe is the compression stroke... Any advice would certainly we welcomed.

Thank you all in advance!

How is the throttle hooked up? Also carburetor tuning can vary greatly from area to area(humidity, air density, temperature, and a million other things can throw off the tuning).
So yeah, let's see some pics of the throttle and I'd fiddle around with the tuning.
Here in Texas, my kart will run like a champ at midday and then not start at night, so yeah, tuning is constant for me. *shrug*
Oh, and :welcome2:

Throttle is hooked up the way Redbeard shows in the YouTube video, but it won't even fire with starter fluid. I'll grab a couple pics in just a moment.

Hopefully the pic is attached

I just tried starter fluid direct into the carb and it will sputter, kinda fire for a second or so and then just die off. Not like most motors react with a quick high rev from the starter fluid.

Also just pulled the plug and I do have a good strong spark

Here's the crank and cam timing

I just noticed it appears oil is trying to come out my exhaust,

New update, I let the engine sit for a little with the air intake off and coming back to it I noticed that the carb seemed to be oil soaked, so it appears that from pulling it oil is coming out both my exhaust and intake so I drained the oil and got a little under .5 quart out of it so it wasn't over full. I'm lost

When you took the governer out you might habe tipped it before causing oil to get past the piston and out.

So if oil got past the Piston, which is possible, how do I remedy the issue? I have been trying to get this thing to fire for days before I finally started this post

Have you tried cracking the throttle when you pull...
It looks like after the gov was pulled, it now shut tight on throttle return..

I have tried playing with the throttle a little bit while I pulled but I certainly have no problem with trying it a little bit more.

Did you make sure that the nuts on the rocker arms were nice and snug with the proper gap? It's possible one or both rocker arms could be out of adjustment.

Might be a really stupid question but, did you try starting the engine before you pulled it apart to remove the governor gear? There's a slight chance you could have a faulty engine. I would make sure you have a good spark. Pull the plug and check to make sure you have a good spark. You might have a bad CDI (ignition) box. I mean 100 tries and nothing, maybe the occasional bang, I'm thinking check the spark plug to make sure its lighting up.
On cold starts, obviously you need a bit of choke. Have you checked to make sure the fuel was on and not off? Simple things can really just make you feel terrible.

Diagnostics sucks without being there in person.

I had a similar issue with a mini bike I built, come to find out the spark plug was not gapped properly, so even tho I was getting spark, it wasn't enough. Might want to give that a shot, I ended up replacing the cheap spark plug with a decent one and gapped it properly, fired right up after the first pull.

Thank you everyone for the ideas and info, found the issue, although the rockers were set up at .003 one of then was stucking and not allowing the valve to open and close properly. Thank you!
