Ok pal that sounds great!! I have the heat gun, the wife has the hair dryer :wai:

I'll wait till I get to work Monday, and try to pry it over to the side.

Is this a common thing to happen ????

Ive never built anything designed to move so I've never used them.
Also great advise dude. many thanks one and all!!

axle extension

So i managed to extend my axle just now and bore out the splies that mesh the disk and sprocket to the axle. I need to wait till I get my engine on Saturday so i can figure where to put my disk and sprocket and then, when everything is where it should be I'll put the shoulders on the axle. The shoulders will be 32.8 handrail tubing with a slice along the length so I can clamp it around the axle and weld them in. Cheers guys

Sounds like he is using a piece of pipe with a cut out section length wise? To encompass the axle, yet let it drop free for removal maybe?

No......sounds like he's getting ready to something foolish. .....as in welding on shoulders to the axle to locate the sprocket. .....making it UNREMOVABLE!!!!!!!!

Sorry boys..... I've welded the axle in three parts ( cut a short axle in half and added a piece in the middle). Were I've welded the axle I'm going to take some 32mm tube 100mm long and slice it down the length. That will allow me to open it up and close it around the axle over were I've welded it. I am going to weld these shoulders in though. ...........please be kind !!

Ok....I thought maybe that's what you were talking about as well. .....but what threw me is talking about locating the sprocket. ...Do you not have adjustable set-screw collars for that?????

I realize that once you reinforce the splices neither it or the disc will be removable. ...but at least they will be adjustable. .....

Yeah that's right poboy, I have some collars that will clamp the disc and sprocket either side. I was thinking about welding a hub to the disk and sprocket and then drilling through the axle and bolting to. I don't think the collars will be good enough as they only have grubs that clamp the axle ?????

I wouldn't drill through....just a shallow hole.....stronger that way....

 ok poboy that's for the advice. Would I need a longer grub though I have loads lying around from the big rota broach and glass clamps. Or I suppose just a short bolt will do the trick....

I was thinking of using some bar with a hole in on a spring and attaching a cable to the bottom under the kart but I think I'll need some pulleys ???

Thanks for the drawing as well that helped me decide what to do. I might change it up a bit though ....

On this kart I'm just going to use a cent clutch as I have run out of time, money and space lol. I'm not climbing mountains, I'm on flat gravely back roads. Is there a limit on the clutches most engines I'm looking at run 3500rpm. Will the clutch keep up or will it struggle past 2000 ????

Cheers guys Dave.
