Yes I had the spacer made:
When I was fitting the TC to the 212 I wrote down two pages of notes. I wanted a better fit with the best performance. Actually the motor shaft on the 212 is 1" inch short. The outer drive clutch has about 3/8 of and inch of motor shaft to ride on and that should be more, that has been questioned 0n past forum post here. The clutch drive bolt in the kit is m8 x 1.25 x 1 3/4 long is to short, needs to be 2 1/4 long with a 1" thread, takes a 13mm wrench.

OK: Kart people;
With the motor spotted with the chain drive. I marked for motor mount holes with 2" inch slots for 5/16 bolts, slots are for making adjustments for chain & sprocket wear. The seat is a universal with lots of holes putting on a slide adjustment bar for the Grand Son, the seat is a little heavy but I'm getting a seat with suspension together.

Safety talk: using tools you need ( PPG ) = personal protection gear, ear plugs, welding gloves, face shield, goggles, safety glasses, dust mask, welding helmet with flip up lens make for a great grinding shield, two in one. PPG

What about the rest of the kart?? well the frame is going to the paint department??$$ me, The color will either be cobalt blue metallic or Corvette red, what do you think??

Hello DIY viewers;
Not wanting to let you people down, that's where the votes are. The kart frame has been getting prepped for paint, the paint shop had the blue You know there's a metric ton of stuff on the internet but it's the kart that you have that's important and special.

I'm down to a small list to finish, waiting on the floor pan??I wanted 3mm = 0.118 th. 5 bar stile aluminum, the shops did not have, getting 0.080 th. aluminum diamond deck stile.

but since the front spindles don't seem to have the proper ackermann angle,
IDK if front wheels that width are a good idea..
chances are it's just pushing straight at all times.

Hello builders of mechanical engineering;
I finnaly received the floor pan that was the longest hold up of the whole kart build !!??, brake lines with dot 3 fluid, throttle cable, aline drive sprockets, I see when setting the chain I had run out in the axle drive two piece split sprocket !!?? the chain would roll ok than get a little loose. Torqued every thing tight
wired on & off and emergency stop switch, mounted to a plastic plate, the dash is American walnut just a little added class. Add engine oil, gas, start up one pull, run easy for break in rpm's up & down. moving out side for test runs.

Not using Ackerman steering geometry, that was designed by my Uncle Georg Lakenserger 1817 For horse drawn carriages.

Can you tell us more about your brake lines in photo 1/9 above ? Looks like some kind of plastic hose with compression fittings or something ?

I have been using banjo style lines and have found they don't want to lay right.

well it's Lankensperger
and it's an essential part of ALL modern race kart's steering geometry.
(well.. modern.. was adopted to most race karts during the sixties...)

KPI, caster and camber are still important of course,
but for totally different reasons
caster is how easily the front wheels snap back straight if you let go of the steering wheel and preventing speed wobble,
camber is how much of the inner tread you want to ruin for no reason
and the kingpin inclination is how much camber changes around corners (to help lift the inner rear basically)

but sure.. go ahead man, your kart, your choice...

And since you know about good ol George's contribution to modern cars and karts,
you know how to fix that awkward steering behaviour when you need to

The lawn mower style seat??
has forward & backward adjustment 6" inch
bucket style with lumbar universal seat
two vent holes in bottom
self supporting no framing weight
soft comfort added suspension I just about got thrown out of it, trying one of your drifts.

The brakes and parts are MCP brand, hydraulic brake line plastic MCP 300, the fitting are on the brakes parts.

Sid; good reply with the course of many variables the proof is in the pudding.

Landuse; thanks; going for a finish, the kart needs to go to the proving ground, with Michigan's big three, Chevy, Ford, Dodge ya my gravel side road So now it's test time with a finish. Out karting will return soon.

Ok; Kart & mini bike people, going for a finish here.

Out riding test runs, the torque converter is smooth with diffent speed levels. There is no feeling like building your own kart & finishing it.

The soft Taiwan brand slicks are tuff, I thought they would have gotten chewed up on gravel?? but no. The wide track slicks they grip the grass & gravel, very tight turning radius.

With a lot of miles on the side road, The kart never threw a drive chain on the rough wash board parts of the road, good sprocket alinement. The Grand Son has a few years before he's ready for this kart.

The Road Runner kart preformed well, It's one kart you could ride all day and never get tired.
