2017 - Vintage Predator Kart Build

Been working on getting this front end mocked up, welded and working this morning. I got gussets made for the spindle steering arms, also outer axle braces made and welded on . Finished up the last steering arm and used heims joints instead of tie rod ends.

Oh yea a new bumper just in case !

QQ: why did you go with the steering assembly being in front of the kart? I haven't read through the first page yet but just wondering.

I'm shooting for a vintage looking kart, a lot of the vintage racers had the steering in the front.

Ordered parts to put the rear end together with and I'm going with the live axle set up.
Wheels, bearings and hangers should be here before the weekend.

I got parts in today just in time for the 4 day weekend.

Well the rear axle hangers were not long enough I had to extend them a 1''1/2 also boxed them in for a little added strength.

I used a piece of 1'' tubing to mock up the rear axle assembly. Now I can get some measurements for the real axle length, sprocket and brake system.

Off work today so I took advantage of it . Started working on the Predator 212 (60363) engine.
It will be mostly stock but has to look the part of a racing engine , but since my grand kids will be riding it to it will stay governed. I also like the throttle stop that the governor system gives you.
Started out by mounting and hooking up the fuel pump , drilled the hole in the valve cover on the top close to the exhaust valve side to get my pulse for the pump. Mounted the pump on a aluminum top plate that I had on hand.

Also Install a Robertson Torque tube header , just to make it look like a racing kart.....and yea a little more tone to !

You don't have any issues running fuel pumps with the stock carbs and no return line?

I thought there were different needle/seats for gravity fed carbs vs pump fed carbs. A lot of people around here were using a return line from the pump back to the gas tank to lower the fuel pressure at the carb.

Can't say that I've ever ran in to that problem before , where I had to run a return line back to the tank . But who knows It might happen to this one...we'll see.
