Personally I would either leave it natural, or polish it up a bit. Too much paint just makes the eyes go crazy. You could polish the whole engine top to bottom to an almost mirror shine, but that would be a crap ton of work. Maybe degrease and then just polish up some.small pieces for a pop.

:iagree: It's near impossible to polish an entire air cooled engine; if you want it to pop, paint the jug black (or red or any strong base colour) then polish just the edges of the fins (or even just remove the paint); the hard colour will make the edges pop...

My kz1000 was this way and this was what I was thinking in my head actually. And yeah its hard to polish the thing without having it plated or coated cause you can't get in the cooling fins.

Hey Joe, I have had good luck cleaning cast aluminium engine parts using etching mag wheel cleaner, just follow the instructions and safety precautions on the bottle, most of the time the aluminium cast parts wind up looking brand new,I had a 1963 Nethercutt two wheel drive motorcycle that I restored that had a hydraulic drive cover that was shaped like a big egg and it was filthy, I made that cover look brand new using the etching mag wheel cleaner, since that time I have used it many times to clean up cast aluminium, just a thought maybe.

Also, soda blasting cast aluminum works really well. It will literally make it look like it was just cast. You can do it very cheap too.

P.S. Nothing is impossible with enough time and thought!

Think i will pass as i dont want any stuff creeping in the engine and ruining the internals. If it was bare cases i would have already blasted it tho.

Well I'm waiting on my new building to be delivered so I can work on it again. Should be here this week hopefully but I have more parts already. Got the handlebars I wanted so I don't have to waste a new set of grips when I pull it back apart for paint and polish.

Just sounded funny usually we are waiting on parts to be delivered. My son about laughed his rear off , when he was 3 or 4 the first time he saw a mobile home going down the freeway. He could only see the finished half of the double wide. My wife said the look on his face was priceless as he was trying to ponder why a house was driving down the road where cars are supposed to be. And your not in Texas where they have to take the wheels off when they get new house.
So any way are you getting a new steel building for a workshop or something.

On my next build I'm joining a Suzuki 185 rear end to my motorcycle frame but was probably going to use a old Kohler motor or something since I'm using my motorcycle engine on my kart but I love what you built

Thanks ! I was gonna hide it so nobody copied me til it gets out to some news channels and car shows first but i decided it might be safe. I have quite a few people interested in it, including 2 news stations from okc area and some parts suppliers im using. They are keeping it under wraps til its done tho ! At least they better. Definately gonna be different when its done here in a few months.

I should be riding it this month to make sure everything is lined up properly and working as it should then its gonna be coated and polished. Color shall be Kawasaki Blue Pearl.

Waiting on these parts now.................

Cool. But I still think you need some kind of Motorcycle tank up there.

I tried 4 different ones but not a one was small enough to not hang off the backside of the engine too far. I think after paint and pinstriping it will look alot better. It looks funny right now cause its the only shiny part on anything.

Got my call earlier............ Building will be here friday !

I guess i worry too much cause the cables that i thought would be way too long are gonna be just fine. Got them installed and the new handlebars. A battery, brakes, and some carburetors and we are gonna let it rip finally!!! And it fits perfectly in its new home...............................

Like a glove. You might want to put something under it just in case the engine decides to leak oil on your new carpet
