First off the speed isn't an issue 5 speed transmission on a 108 HP car engine,4 cyl diesel from a 98 VW Jetta 2.0 litre capable of reaching 180 NOT that any track system will handle that. Second track will be hinged with 1/16 inch stainless steel hinges with double row fastened so they won't break apart as for weight its a car engine trust me there is no way I'm gonna exceed the 3484 LBS the car weighs, maybe half that. Engine weighs 240 LBS approx, buggy will be 500-700 with about 100 in tracks. Not sure if i'm gonna use suspension yet or not depends on what I can find, I might do a solid suspension for now and change it as I work out the bugs if any in the drive train. I'm going to have a slightly sloped front and back so that I can attack ditches in both forward and reverse, tracks will be roughly 15-18 inch apart from top and bottom and have a ground clearance of about 10-12 inches. Tracks are 15 inches wide and approx 2-3 inches from side of frame. YES I will be adding some sort of guard over the tracks in any place you may be able to have fingers or elbows get stuck into. The tracks I'm using are almost 1/2 inch thick so they should hold up to a reasonable speed, if I make 60 KMPH I'll be happy but you know I'm gonna push it till I break the tracks at least once. May have to go get some more 1.5 inch square tubing to do out the engine frame. BTW tracks of 155-164 are worth 500 or more even used track is still 200-300 each and I'm using 3 per side, mind you I got them for 20 bucks each because they were for old 70-80's snowmobiles and he was just gonna use then as walkways. The only real problem I think I'm gonna encounter is the transmission differential sticks out 8 inches from the engine right in the spot I have to mount the drive sprocket for the track, so I need to figure that out when I get the engine out of the car, I'm waiting on a engine lift so I can take it out in one piece.
And the LAST POINT I will make is this....................
TELL ME I CAN'T DO SOMETHING AND I'LL PROVE YOU WRONG
Been doing that for years and never gets old
