To be honest, I'm a bit worried about painting; it's winter here right now, not exactly optimum painting conditions :worried2:

Know what you mean about getting a bit chilly, can you hire some heat lamps from Kenards etc. ?

:lolgoku: I see :D

Well, you're outta luck Paul but the north Americans can buy them anywhere it seems

It had to happen; if you remember, the first time I saw Fast Eddie's I said I wanted one &, since I couldn't buy one, I had to build it. The fact that, so far, it's turned out better than I imagined was a happy accident

Yeah, you have done a great job. It looks just like an AmEx. Too bad you can't make me one and send it this way

Looks great! This forum is awesome... I've been learning so much by reading everyone's build threads. I appreciate how much you and everyone share, and help out.

Can't wait to see your finished product!

Clever rear suspension!

Worried about paint temps? From an Aussie to a canuck, that's just FUNNY!!! LOL... What kind of temps are we talking about, here?

Paint Prep

After stripping the frame, the next step was to clean every millimetre with a phosphoric acid based metal conditioner & a scourer. Then I welded all the joins & ground those that were a bit untidy.

There are still a few welds that don't look the best but, they'll be hidden either on the underside of the frame or by other parts like the seat.

Next, the whole frame was sanded with 80 grit sandpaper to remove any imperfections, spatter & remaining surface rust before being coated with etch primer.

During the week it will get 2-3 coats of primer & rubbed down with 400 grit wet before laying the colour next weekend (weather permitting).

So no quick rattle can job :D :D.

OH HELL NO!!! I didn't rattle can the little princess' kart either.

I am, however, rattle canning some engine parts (side cover, pull starter, rocker cover...), the enamel paint just chipped off; engine enamel should take care of that...

Your paint should stick like glue after the prep you have put in.

That's the plan... :D All automotive 2pak

Very nice job bro. You should be proud of yourself for hand-fabricating a kart that looks every bit a production piece. Planning and forethought go a long way, huh?

Thanks Eddie; it's close to the original, there are some minor changes like the steering hoop & the engine mount but, the main structure & design are still there...

...&, I can tell you, there was a LOT of it in there

Well, not gonna get any painting done today. Besides the fact that I haven't had time to lay or rub back the primer, we've just had the wettest June on record (we haven't had a rain free day in almost 3 weeks) & nothing over 18*C (65*F); not exactly favourable painting conditions
