Cool, Grizzly has the EazyRC "Patriot", the non licensed version of the fully licensed FMS 1:18 TOYOTA Land Cruiser 80.

Yea, but how are they in 6” of mud? Or water? Or snow?

Not entirely sure about the waterproofness of the EazyRC as they have a different circuit board but the FMS/Rochobby line typically has waterproof electronics.

Bansil is right. Lots of people run them in mud and snow but you have to scale the environment to the truck. Don't drop it in a 3 foot deep mud puddle and then wonder why it doesn't drive out at lightning speed...or at all. 🤦‍♂️

SO here is name dropping

Traxxas
Injora
RampCrab

There are more, will try to update

As for bronco v/s Defender, believe it or not stock the defender is way top heavy, def. want heavier wheels atleast, except for bumpers they are identical chassis.

I kind of want to do a yellow camel trophy version of the defender...just because :p I was in love watching that in the olden days

These come stock with bushings in the axles.

Some upgrade to bearings, which is fine as long as you get true S.S. bearings, becasue they are not sealed and water can get in them

Some cheaper sets do not have S.S. bearings and can rust fairly quickly

I am still running bushings, until I take it apart and replace the axle shafts and C/V joints and will look for wear on the plastic etc.

You actually really have to take apart to replace stuff just like on a real vehicle

It's just easier, cuz, you know, you can pick it up. Not as much crap to get stuck and cause headaches, either.

Oh no!

I have too many interests and when I found out they make affordable, real 4-wheel drive, RC vehicles with scale details I started buying a few.... but only a few from FMS/Rochobby/EazyRC.

I have the 1/18 Rochobby Fire Horse (an unlicensed Jeep Wrangler Unlimited) and the FMS 1/12 Willys MB (the WWII Army Jeep). The detail is unreal on the Willys because it is super scale and even has metal leaf spring suspension. Just a wonderful replica, 4x4, 2 speed transmission, lights and the steering wheel turns like a ghost is driving it.

We call them 1:18 or 1/18 not that abomination you titled the thread with! 😂

How do you like the Fire Hose? was thinking of picking up one of those also being it's waterproof, or so they say. $99 ain't bad.

I like the "Fire Hose". I am stealing that, lol.

I bought it as my first 1:18 because it was on sale for $68.99 at the time. I went down the rabbit hole to take it apart, mod the interior (so a 1:18 figure fits better) and paint the body something other than bright red. It's still in pieces. It's a great little rig, love the extreme steering angles courtesy of the mini CV axles in front.

It's got all the neat doo-dads, the lights (hi beam, low beam, turn signals) that operate from the transmitter and whatever else it does and the metal chassis. Good run time on that tiny Li-Po battery. Amazing technology.

No real forum for them, way too much crap on youtube.

Hard to keep a forum going on them because there's so many model/versions and people's interests are so fragmented (so many options) but RC Groups has some stuff in the Crawler section and Rccrawler dot com has some content in the "Micro Scale Rigs" subforum.

Youtube is a good source for info and oddly, Failbook. Failbook has many groups devoted to FMS, Rochobby, EazyRC and there's lots of members, mods, customs and upgrades being done and lots of parts available now from the manufacturer and a "cottage industry" on AliExpress and Banggood and Amazon of course. Lots of metal rims, all metal gearboxes, and metal axle housings and the like.

My first foray into the RC crawler hobby was with the 1/12 WPL C34KM which is a copy of the old Toyota 1970's FJ40 Land Cruiser.

I bought the kit version with metal axles and I am working on the body right now. I have a serious problem with leaving things stock or OOB (out of the box). It is called Advanced Modeler's Syndrome. 🤪

Here's an example of one with a little "rustification":

Good to know. And, don't play with the Fire Hose to much...... 🤣

It would be great to have a square body blazer 10th scale, with hi/lo range, locking frnt/rear diffs so you can to front digs etc....but that is way to much money when I got other toys :ROFLMAO:

Check out their new Hummer H1. It is 1/12 scale (true and honest for once) and has 370 brushed motor, full lighting control, remote control locking diffs, full ball bearings, 4x4 and 4x2, real portal axles like the 1/1, 4-wheel steering (weird), opening doors, hood and tailgate and too many other features to list or remember. Just needs slightly bigger tires and/or rims because those look like the bone stock rims on a base model or something.

https://www.fmshobby.com/products/fms-1-12-2006-hummer-h1-alpha-rs

It is $329.99 but keep looking for sales and if or when it stops being a great seller.

I almost went for their "1/10" Mashigan (1986-1995 Wrangler YJ) but I gotta draw the line somewhere. It's a biggun and actually scales out to 1/7 scale if I recall correctly. They are having trouble keeping up with demand on that one.

The Mashigan is on my list now because I had a 94 YJ I bought after high school and was first real off roader. I want to replicate it. Bought it in 1999 and meet my wife 6 months after that. Lol. Had 28,000 miles on it when I bought it. Wish I still had it.

I know...Summer of 1988...I'm on top with maroon Alphine Development hat on :sifone: 1st set of38.8 x 16 x 15 Super Swappers sold in VA (thats what guy on phone said)

A 1979 Blazer, I rebuilt Trans at my after school gig, a transmission shop "thanks frog for teaching me the secrets of a TH350" and Engine in dads garage after school 85/86-ish, 11 inches of lift if I remember right, I think
6in springs, 2in underspring anti-wrap bars (kinda like a slapper bar to stop pinion climb, front mount was the spring mount) + 3in B/L

It also had a 4 point cage and a rear 6 point dad had installed in AZ when we wheeled, 12 years old I did Chiva Falls AZ sitting on a phone book, it was called the wookie wagon...no back seat just a mattress

You say you meant to say "nookie wagon" nope....it was a wild night cruising the University up in Charlottesville

Top was off, we hanging over the back cage....Bansil yells at 2 girls "you wanna ride in the wookie wagon?"

They were kool, So 1 of them visited me at family day basic training she was with my dad/mom...she was cool and actually helped wash side of truck after I ......WELL, MY TUMMY WAS UPSET FROM DINNER :ROFLMAO::cool:

Did you know about the Mashigan beforehand or learn about it here?

Neat thing about the name, I saw pre-release photos of it and I thought it was Chinese-Engrish 🇨🇳😃 for "Michigan" because it has little Michigan license plates on it but it turns out they did a deep dive on the history of the YJ and found out it was designed by a chap called Chuck Mashigan. So they did all that I guess to avoid paying licensing fees to Jeep/Fiat/Chrysler.

Saw early on that they had real metal leaf springs as optional parts for it, so that makes it a 9.9 out of 10 for me. :cornut:

Awesome story man! These are memories we never forget and topics like this bring them back up. I'll try and dig up some pics of mine. Way to many stories to share and back in my wild youth. Lol.

Technically yes. I just discovered it while going through my rabbit hole of these new to me crawler RC stuff this week. Interesting about the name. Haha. I'm actually an employee of said group of companies they didn't want to license through. Lol. Once I saw the Mashigan, I knew I had to replicate mine.
