    Lawnmower Engine Gearing

I have a 6 HP Briggs and Stratton engine that runs. It's a vertical shaft from a lawn mower (one without the self-propelled gearing). I know that I'll need to add a gearbox or modify the engine if I want it to run my horizontal axle. So, what kind of gear ratio would I need to have my kart go to...

    Lawn Mower Engine

Say I have a 6 HP push lawn mower engine. Besides a go kart, what can I build with it?

    Set a Governor

I agree, gearing it would be better. And having the ability to go that fast would be nice, too. :auto:

    Set a Governor

I'd like to be able to get the kart to 15 MPH, I live in a residential area and I'm not going to be going 30 mph on a sidewalk. I'm going to be using a snowblower engine with a clutch installed. It doesn't have different gears (like first, second, third gears). I'm not sure what kind of clutch...

    Set a Governor

Pretty sure it's an internal. Depending on how fast the kart I'm working on goes after it is tested I may have to adjust it, and I'm not going to be using a transmission with different gears.

    Set a Governor

Just wondering, how do you set the governor of a small engine? Isn't there a screw or something that you can adjust? Oh, and if you have pictures, please post them.

    First Kart update

Kart Yeah, none of my plans yet have been finalized, so that's something to take into account for final plans. I had an old design that was too large and then with this new one it got smaller, so maybe I need to do something in the middle. I'm going to get a snowblower engine from my dad...

    First Kart update

Seat The part circled in the picture is called a "seat cushion", and I'd probably have one where your back would be, too. I'm thinking of using an old plastic chair with a cushion on it, or an old car seat.

    First Kart update

Hi Everyone! As some of you know, I'm going to build a go kart vehicle. I have attached a picture of my Google Sketchup model. My next step currently is to get an engine. I'm going to my grandpa and grandma's campsite on July 4 and my dad called and asked them if they had an engine I could...

    Inexpensive Welding Machine

I see. I didn't think it would be cheap for an arc welder. :rolleyes3: And what about the Sears Butane Torch. Would that be good for solder work?

    Inexpensive Welding Machine

I understand... I don't think I'd need one for this project anyway. What about the Stitch Welding Torch (98753-1VGA) for $39.99? Does that just plug in to a normal outlet? It has a 100% duty cycle.

    Inexpensive Welding Machine

I don't know if I'm actually going to buy a welder or not. So, to make a better choice, I'd like to know what kind I should get. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Category.taf?CategoryID=291 This link has some arc welding supplies on it. Could I buy the stitch welding torch and not need...

    Vertical Shaft Gokart

That's great! I heard of that somewhere but I thought you still had to do something inside of the mower. Now I don't have to buy a new engine!

    Vertical Shaft Gokart

Hello Everyone, I'm going to be building a go-kart vehicle. Let's say I use a 2 cycle Lawnboy engine like from this mower: So, how would I make that engine be able to power an axle? My original plans involved miter/bevel gears, however I can't find a place that sells them, and the junkyard...

    Summer project thing

Hi, Just wondering what kind of gears you used. Did you use miter gears or bevel gears? I would like to know. I'm going to build a similar kind of vehicle with a mower engine and I wasn't sure about the gears for a vertical shaft engine.

    Help with Gears

Thanks again Thank you again for the help. Finding these gears in motorcycles or ATVs would be helpful because I plan to visit a junkyard to purchase some scrap metal and maybe wood, and that would be great to find these in a motorcycle or ATV there. If anyone else finds any info, please reply!

    Help with Gears

Thanks Thanks for the info... those gears would work for my project. Although, I was looking for something larger, I think those would still work in my design. If anyone else finds gears, please post a reply on where you found them!

    Help with Gears

Hello, I am going to be making a small tractor/vehicle from a lawn mower engine, and to do so I'm going to need 4 miter gears. For those of you who don't know what these look like (or are not familiar with the name "miter gear"), click on this. (By 4 gears I mean 4 individual ones, not 4 sets...
