When working properly ( and they almost always do ) the 30 series torque converter is as dependable as anything. They don't slip, and geared right offer great hill climbing ability as well as very good acceleration. Show us some pictures of what you're working with.

Yeah, you can't beat that much horsepower for that kind of money. Mine sat in its box in my garage for almost a year before I built it. Good call.

Most sprockets bolt to a hub, not directly to the axle. If the bolt pattern of the sprocket matches the hub, you could have the inner diameter of the sprocket machined out to the proper size. Or just keep shopping for another sprocket. Get a set of calipers and take an accurate measurement...

I think you need some SERIOUS ear protection before your first ride. You and that exhaust pipe are going to get to be pretty good friends, ( actually probably enemies ). Totally agree on the kill switch concept. When trouble arrives, nothing faster than a quick slap downward.

I like your build. If you are planning to use it strictly off road ( like in the desert ) I hope that you are very young, and can withstand a lot of pain. Driving fast off road in a kart with no suspension quickly becomes a torture chamber. Hope you have some smooth areas to run on.

I vote for adjustable and lockable. If it were a normal situation where chain tension was controlled by sliding the engine, would you want it spring loaded or bolt down tight?

Yes. Don't buy the Amazon cheapie. We usually get what we pay for.

Now that's the kind of hitchhiker I want to give a ride to. I've also got a lot of experience, ( no not that kind.) I've hitchhiked across the United States 3 times. Didn't think I was any trouble at all. Just glad to get the ride.

Welcome. What is that big square thing welded on the back? Doesn't look like it belongs there. Great age for your son to start driving a motorized vehicle. You won't believe how far ahead he'll be when it's time to get a drivers license.

I have that very same kart, only with a predator 224. We absolutely love it. Stock suspension just like yours. The suspension is to smooth out the ride. It's not going to be a jumping machine like a modern side by side.
