Had to print my own spacers

Yes, it's plastics - PLA. I have an old printer - got it about 4 or 5 years ago and built it from a kit. But, it continues to do what I need it to so I haven't been compelled to upgrade.

Had to print my own spacers

I haven't heard of wax prints - the wax would be to uncontrollable at high temps (it would take too long to cool off and therefore wouldn't hold it's shape I would think). I have heard of people printing molds directly. Although, I would imagine that the melting point off aluminum is pretty high.

Had to print my own spacers

No spacer came with my spindles so I decided just to print my own. Curious to see how they hold up.

How does BMI stay in business given their shipping costs

I am equally new - building my first kart. But, thus far, I have been buying from OMBWarehouse. They have a flat fee for shipping - $7.99 - which I think is reasonable. And, any order over $99 ships free.

How does BMI stay in business given their shipping costs

I have heard that - especially with respect to online orders. I haven't heard that with respect to phone orders. In fact, I do my shopping online, then getting the online site to quote shipping, then call in with the same items. When I call in, I have always gotten a lower shipping quote than...

How does BMI stay in business given their shipping costs

Rant coming... Every time I look to buy something from BMI, the shipping ends up being way more than the part. How do they stay in business? I understand that shipping costs have gone up a lot in the last several years. And, yes, I have been incredibly spoiled by Amazon Prime's free same day...

confused about grease fitting on rims

Yeah, I am not too impressed. I put my fingers into the center of the rim on each side to "grip" the bearings and then gave the rim a spin - I don't even get 1/2 a revolution. Very disappointed with my purchase.

confused about grease fitting on rims

How do I grease them. I haven't yanked on them but are they easily removed from the rim so that I can get at the bearings to grease them? Thanks

confused about grease fitting on rims

I purchased some 4" rims with built in bearings from OMBWarehouse. They came with a built in grease fitting. I assumed this was for greasing the bearings. But, it appears that the bearings are sealed. The grease fitting opens into the center section of the rim between the bearings. So, if I add...

    New guy from Seattle

Hello everyone. I am new to the forum (first post a few days ago) and new to go karts. I am some building skills - wood, mechanical, electronics, etc - but no metal working skills. Hope to change that in the new few months as I am always looking for new things to learn. And a new project is my...

Why aren't there pre-built frames for sale?

Thanks for the feedback / suggestions. Yes, I plan on taking a welding class first. There are several metal fab spaces in town that teach welding. Then, if I think it's for me, I'll get a quality welder. With all my random interests, I am sure I will use my welding skills/equipment beyond this...

Why aren't there pre-built frames for sale?

Thanks ultralight01. The "replacement" of karts by quads and dirt bikes is something that I have noticed as well. I was super surprised at how low cost they are becoming. But, personally, I feel ok putting my daughter in a yard kart but will not even consider a quad or dirt bike for her for...

Why aren't there pre-built frames for sale?

I am new to the hobby and have been looking around for only a couple of months. I am interested in building an electric yard cart for my 8 yr old daughter. I am comfortable with my mechanical and electrical skills but I don't weld. So, first things first, I need a frame. The only one I could...
