Its Alive....and wrecked on the test drive. LOL

This thing looks awesome. I kinda wish I had built a rigid kart rather than suspension.. might be finished now if I had lol Toe-in id say pretty small (1-2mm?) On my 4wd its 1-4mm toe-in so a bit less for a kart id imagine :P but definatly toe-in so as not to be bulldozing and break rods.

live axle slides whats normal method to stop it?

Well maybe I can do the key method with disc brake and just leave the other side that and the bearing screws should be enough to hold it. :) cheers for replys guys.

live axle slides whats normal method to stop it?

Yea our bearings have a collar on them with two allan key scresw that tighten onto the axle. I'm just assuming that even if they are really tight it could slip a little putting the chain out ever so slightly.

live axle slides whats normal method to stop it?

Hmm that is a good point, something I hadn't thought of. Thanks. My thinking was on the outside of each bearing having a bolt through the axle that butted up against the bearings.

Aussie kart "It doesn't have to be perfect"

Front End Complete Ok... so mountain bike shocks were not the best idea. After assembly it was soon found that the weight of the kart (withour the rider) was even too heavy for use... Luckily for us we had some mini bike shocks which once again had been found in a skip bin to come to the...

Aussie kart "It doesn't have to be perfect"

Good question Krunch... as you can see tht we have naturally say the triangles at a lower position than the main frame... such that a bottom out of the shocks will mean the triangles will be horizontal...

    What Do You Think????????

we have a photo of the governor on our "Aussie kart" thread... its basically a nylon cog which has a little brake on it, which brakes more as you open up the throttle, i.e. governs revs whilst increasing mass flow.

    engines

oh.. and yeah agree that china's manufacturing would be up to scratch when it comes to casting. I'd say they would have more manpower for quality control than most places  However.. safety should not be taken lightly.. if there is doubt build a sheild between you and the engine? Some...

    engines

Hey guys, we just bought a honda clone engine and a maxtorque clutch ... i.e. 20mm shaft 3/4 inch shaft... no big deal as you are taking the crankcase cover off to pull the governor out. Remove the crankshaft, get someone to lathe it back to 18.5mm (takes literally 2 mins) probably cost you...

Aussie kart "It doesn't have to be perfect"

Front Suspension arrangement Hey guys, just put together a front suspension arrangement. Managed to get away with some shocks off a mountain bike we found in a skip bin. They have adjustable knobs on the top which will help us set the resistance in testing. The other key was to use some ball...

    Ed's offroad kart take 2

Go your own design I think you should stick with your guns and go with your own design. It will feel much better in the end and you will be a much better engineer for it.

Aussie kart "It doesn't have to be perfect"

Sitting around the table post christmas festivities we realised (brother-in law and i... that we needed a project... something substantial. In our favour access to my parents 40 acre property to which there is plently of room for some off road action. It was decided we need something...
