    Mounting A Jackshaft

I would be tempted to remove the original mount and weld that one in its place...but then chain tension might become an issue. Maybe cut the sides off the jackshaft plate and mount it flat under the engine?

Since you have some welding to do anyway, you might think about using a cutoff wheel to groove the weld holding the bracket on, adjust it and weld it where you want it. I have cut them off and moved them toward the rear because they caught on the roots in the woods when they are so far forward.

I am interested in the engine. Please do not scrap it. I can always make room for one more smoker. I agree with the other guys, put it under cover as a future project.

Is there a Tractor Supply store nearby? You might take your bent wheel there and find a tire and wheel combination to fit right there on the shelf.

Thank you. You beat me to it. If you run the clutch with the sprocket inboard, they line up fine. Might need a chain tensioner, though, just to keep the long chain from flopping around.

Sounds like a motorcycle carb, no linkage to governor, 2:1 jackshaft and screaming downhill on a paved road. Rider was lucky. Going from 30 MPH to zero can be hazardous.

It was being restricted by that gear reduction jackshaft assembly bolted to the engine. I'll bet it sounded like an airplane just before it went BOOM.

Right you are! New motor time. Do not bolt that thing onto the new one.

Are you alright, Friend? If you lose that jackshaft plate thing bolted to your engine, you might double your speed by using a longer chain and direct drive.

You could double them up. Install three if they fit.
