Snow Blower Transmission = Manual Kart?

Got any pics of this project?

Snow Blower Transmission = Manual Kart?

Ok I was thinking about this today while driving home from work and i had an idea to potentially make this work better. Take a motor with a horizontal engine, but the shaft coming out of the top, not the bottom. Mount that directly on the engine plate. Then put a giant aluminum disk on TOP of...

Snow Blower Transmission = Manual Kart?

Has anyone ever used a snow blower style transmission in a go kart to make it manual? Before we go on, please understand that this is just a curious thought I had. I have ZERO interest in doing this, I think it would likely be a terrible idea. But it also seems like it would probably work...

    Lights at Idle?

I had one a couple years ago but there are so many other things i need first, who knows when or if a gearbox would ever happen. But I think i'd like something kind of like a riding mower gearbox with a 1:1 forward gear, plus a few lower forward gears, plus a reverse. All that still connected to...

    Lights at Idle?

I do need some kind of gearbox but thats a whole other project.

    Lights at Idle?

It's a shame I can't take it out of gear and set it to idle at a higher RPM for when I want to use a rear spotlight. even though that will be a situation i would very rarely be in.

    Lights at Idle?

This is what I used on my snow blower: https://www.superbrightleds.com/12v-ac-to-dc-converter-module-3-amps No flickering at speed. I'm not sure if it flickers at idle. It spends so little time idling. Next time is snows, if it ever snows again, ill pay more attention to how it runs. Although I...

    Lights at Idle?

I don't know what it has, but I know it did come with an incandescent headlight so its gotta be capable of putting out at least around 40 watts. So I figure I should be able to run bright LEDs no problem, hopefully.

    Lights at Idle?

No battery. And I'd have to mess with the wiring near the engine and it's so cold out :/

    Lights at Idle?

My manco indo has a 6.5hp subaru engine. This engine has a power out that went to an incandescent headlight. I don't remember why but that headlight was removed very early on so I don't really remember it's behavior. But here's the deal, I want to install an AC DC converter, and a bright LED...

    Solid Axle vs Open Differential

Those pearson chain powered open diff axles. Possibly brand new, possibly pulled out of an old mower or something. I haven't taken measurements or anything yet. At this point I'm still just deciding if this is even something I want to pursue or not.

    Solid Axle vs Open Differential

The cart only has like 3 inches of ground clearance so I can't imagine its going to make much difference in the snow. Maybe my acceleration will be a little slower but I shouldn't be getting stranded any easier than I already do. Ideally I'd love an open diff with a manual lockout but I think...

    Solid Axle vs Open Differential

So whats your secret? A miniature truetrac or torsen clutchless limited slip differential?

    Solid Axle vs Open Differential

I have a Manco Dingo (as pictured) and I'm thinking about switching from it's stock solid rear axle, to an open rear differential. There would be lots of plusses to doing this: much easier turning, especially on pavement, much less tire wear, much less digging up the surface you are driving on...

    Parking Brake?

    Hmmm easy enough I suppose.

    Parking Brake?

My kart (Manco Dingo) has a single rear mechanical disc brake for stopping. Ideally, I'd like to replace that with a hydraulic brake down the road, but that's not the question for now. The question for now is, are there easy ways to add a parking brake? If I have to stop it on uneven ground and...

    Best Switch Style?

I took a closer look today and I have even less space than I thought, so the marine style switches may be out just based on space. I think I'm going to have to go with the little toggle switches. Regarding shutoff, I don't think security is a huge issue. Granted right now it literally just sits...

    Best Switch Style?

ALSO if I'm going to do a wiring project, is it worthwhile to put an ignition switch on the "dashboard"? This kart did come with an ignition/kill switch on the steering wheel but that was long since been removed. It also has an on off switch on the motor that i can reach pretty easily even from...

    Best Switch Style?

I own a boat and I can assure you even in open ocean, my go kart (no suspension) gets bounced around WAY more than my boat does. That said, maybe I'll go to the marine store and play around with the switches. They probably have a wall with both styles of switch mounted.

Single Seater Kart => Utility Kart

Oh thats cool. I've been thinking about those as a better replacement for a snow blower friction wheel system but I'm not entirely sure how they even work. But yeah it doesn't sound like a setup that would fit my own utility cart needs. I'd still want to be able to drive it a mile or two and if...
