Has anyone here, as they got older, (I'm 43 now) kept the go kart they had when they are younger, and turned it in to more of a utility kart. Something they can use around the house?
I have a Manco Dingo I bought when I was 22. I wanted once since I was a kid and I had a lot of fun with it. But I'm old now and it just sits behind my house very rarely being ridden. I spend far more time replacing gunked up carbs over and over again than I do riding the thing.
Nowadays, I don't dream of hopping in that seat and tearing around the neighborhood. I dream of getting a trailer, a multi speed gearbox, and open differential, a new lighting system, a nice wire rack shelf above the engine, and turning this beast into the kind of machine, I could drive into the woods at night and do some serious trail maintenance on some MTB trails. - NOT THAT I EVER WOULD DO THAT, THAT'S JUST THE KIND OF USE I THINK ABOUT THESE DAYS -
That's what got me wondering, has anyone else turned a similar single seaters go kart into a functional utility vehicle of some kind?
All the things you would use a riding lawn mower for, ASIDE from mowing the lawn
Please, including pics and mod details in your reply. I'd love to get some ideas, whether or not I ever actually implement them.
I did actually buy a super dirt cheap mower trailer years ago. Back when I first bought my machine, I was buidling trails for it under powerlines and after struggling with the mud for a while, I decided to get the trailer so I could dig dirt up from high ground and truck it down to the muddy areas. It actually worked pretty well, the biggest problem was that the soil was so rocky and rooty, it was really hard to dig anything at all. I can barely believe what I'm talking about was over 20 years ago, crazy how time flies.
