new engine - shaft is shorter??

So I go to Lowe's and grab 2 bolts - 5/16" 24 thread. One is 2 1/2" long and bottoms out before touching clutch. The other is 2" long and has little thread engagement....figures - there is no 2 1/4" long bolt at the box stores! The brighter/closer pic is of the thread just touching the shaft...

    Adding a reverse kit?

Trying not to reinvent the wheel. I’d rather replicate an existing bracket to eliminate trial and error. LOL

    Adding a reverse kit?

Found another pic - if only I could get a clear pic of how the transmission mounts to the frame/engine.....

    Adding a reverse kit?

I can't tell if this is replacing the existing backing plate on the engine? I would assume so since the gearbox is replacing the existing shaft on the current backing plate? Does it mount to the engine or to the frame? Here are the only pics that seem close to the setup that I would end up...

    Adding a reverse kit?

Hi all, So I am replacing the engine on my kids Hammerhead 80T and am intrigued by adding reverse. Something like this kit: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-Go-Kart-Forward-Reverse-Gear-Box-For-3-4-TAV2-30-40-41-12T-10T-35-/391822819349 How does this thing mount? Anyone have any pictures...

Hi all, So I am replacing the engine in the hammerhead 80t i have and when I pulled the original engine, this is what what was underneath. Looks like a piece of thick rubber and some stair-step spacers. I assume I should loose the rubber based on what I have read on here....

new engine - shaft is shorter??

Hi all, So I have a hammerhead 80T. I am putting a new engine and got a Duromax with electric start - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BZI1TSS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Figured it would be a bolt in. Then I saw the shaft is shorter on this engine than the original...

    Engine options???

I know what you mean. I am 6'5" and about 240 - you should have seen me stuffed into that little hammerhead 80T. My head sticking out the side to keep from smacking the roll bar. Cue the circus clown music! But man o man - was it fun!!! I picked up a Baja dune 150 for $200. Need to...

    Engine options???

Jrgunn5150 - thanks for the info. I go back and forth on what to do regarding the performance upgrade. I am concerned about any pipe sticking out the back. One of the kids (6, 6, and almost 3) is bound to grab it. I wonder if just a stock muffler would be the best bet. Not as loud and...

I did and I need new gaskets all around. By the time I add up the gasket cost, a new carb was only $5 more - and it came with new fuel line and fuel filter. ---------- Post added at 09:35 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:28 AM ---------- So - since I would like to replace that beautiful...

    Steering alignment help

Hi all, I have a hammerhead 80T that I bought used and I am going through for my twin boys. Question on the steering alignment- it was toe out and when you turned right the passenger wheel hit the frame. I started messing with it last night. So I noticed that when I turn the wheel to the left...

I am doing that now. I ordered a new gas tank - I took it off last night and wow - looked like animal chewed up the metal! I did get it running with a little starter fluid but it ran horrible. I went ahead and ordered a new carb.
