Ok, so it sounds like trying the 39 tooth on the axle is the best place to start.....

gear ratio - which sprocket to change first?

Hi all, So I have a kandi spyder - KD-150GKA-2 and it is slow and has no torque. Not to beat this aspect of the topic as it has been already covered in this thread: http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=26814 - Apparently, this seems common to this buggy. My question is which...

Mudhead 208R - top speed? seems slow....

I agree on buying genuine Comet brand, but unfortunately it is not available (for a semi-reasonable cost) for 2 day shipping. So I tried an off brand. Worst case, I return it. We are heading out of town on Friday and taking the buggy so I took a chance.....

Mudhead 208R - top speed? seems slow....

So it appears that the mudhead and the 80T are both a hair under 7" - 6.96" according to my digital caliper. See the attached pictures. The one with the digital is set to 7.126" (7 1/8). As you can see my distance is a little smaller than that. It actually matches my 80T - and I runa 203589...

Mudhead 208R - top speed? seems slow....

Figures- I ordered a belt this morning. :) But wait - Looking at the parts diagram, the swing arm for the motor does not adjust. Attached is a pic of the part. I will double check the measurements when I get home.

Mudhead 208R - top speed? seems slow....

Actually I have not fixed it yet. What I listed is what I had done already and it was still slow. This morning before work I went outside and popped the cover and looked at the belt. I am pretty sure it is the wrong size. Attached are pics that shows the belt number and the slack in it. I...

    Adding a reverse kit?

After further research, the swing arm is not big enough to fit a reverse box. Bummer. Would have to rebuild the entire thing and that is not worth it in my opinion. Moving on.... :)

Mudhead 208R - top speed? seems slow....

Thanks for the great response! I did look at the throttle setup. It appears that it is ok now. The throttle return spring was broken so I snagged that off of the old motor from the 80T. The "arm" on the gas pedal that holds the cable end appeared to have been either broken off and rewelded...

Mudhead 208R - top speed? seems slow....

Hi all, Just picked up a 2015 Mudhead 208R for the kids. Already have a hammerhead 80T but it does not have reverse. The thought was this was going to replace it. Somehow it feels considerably slower than the 80T. Of course I cannot do a direct comparison as I am in the process of putting...

just got a mudhead 208r - need tires - move up in size?

that makes sense. appreciate the info. as for rim width - I don't know if they are identical. Can't find anything on line about rim size - just tire size I pick up the buggy tomorrow so I can't dismount them and check right now. I would assume that getting a tire that is 1/2 between both...

just got a mudhead 208r - need tires - move up in size?

Hi all, So I just picked up a 2015 mudhead 208r and it needs tires. The stock size are: front - 16x6-8 rear - 16x7-8 two questions - can i put a 16x6.5-8 tire on both rims? they would be 1/2 wider than stock front and 1/2 inch narrower than stock rear? Also - what would be my impact to...

    Adding a reverse kit?

unfortunately, used karts around here are pretty thin. I also have the transmission and the new engine already - so I might as well fab something up. Just looking for some more details pics.

wanted to remove spring from shock - and no....

I cut a slot for the shaft and the spring sat much nicer in the angle iron. I was able to loosen the jamb nut and then used a screwdriver in the shock eye to remove the end. :)

new engine - shaft is shorter??

That is the plan - nothing is ever "easy" is it... :)

wanted to remove spring from shock - and no....

I just cobbled that together quickly. :) I still need to add a guard over the top of the spring and cut a slot for the shaft. That should make it "less scary"

wanted to remove spring from shock - and no....

So I wanted to remove the spring from the shocks of my kid's hammerhead 80T to clean them up and paint them. Made a "spring compressor" tool and low and behold - the "disc" does not have a slot! - what the.....?!?! There is a nut inside. Anyone seen this? I assumed it is screwed on - standard...
