How loose should the belt on a Comet 20 series be?

Question in title- I've set the distance between the drive and the driven to the minimum reccomended center to center distance stated on the belt specs, but there is very little slack in the belt. What's a good way to determine if the belt is loose/tight enough?

    Help troubleshooting a Predator 212

Thanks poboy, I read up on water in fuel tanks and the symptoms sound very similar to what I'm experiencing. I'll check that asap. I do wonder how enough water got in there to be an issue, though...

    Help troubleshooting a Predator 212

Come to think of it, stale gas could be part of the issue. I've topped it off about two weeks ago with gas from a tank we keep for the lawnmower/snowblower that is months old and mixed with fuel stabilizer, and the kart sits under a tarp in a part of the driveway where it gets direct sun a few...

    Help troubleshooting a Predator 212

It was already acting up after one 30-minute run out of the box with the stock air cleaner, I'm not convinced... But I suppose a cleaning wouldn't hurt regardless!

    Help troubleshooting a Predator 212

Thanks, but I'm a little unsure that this is the issue considering the engine is less than a month old and has been run maybe half a dozen times? Why would the carb get dirty so quickly? Edit- not to mention it's been difficult to start since the second or third start

    Help troubleshooting a Predator 212

I have a fairly new predator 212 that is having some issues starting & staying running. First off, starting it. I wasn't present for the initial startup (it was delivered when I was out of town and a friend started it up), but ever since the first time I've started it, the choke has been very...

Do I need a backplate for my torque converter?

Wouldn't the spacer rub instead then? Lol. I'm probably overcomplicating this, I just don't want to mess anything up...

Do I need a backplate for my torque converter?

I have a Comet 20 series torque converter on my kart that does not have a backplate, and I'm wondering if I might need one. I just installed a new Predator 212cc, and after putting on the drive clutch, I noticed that the part closest to the engine is very, very close, to the point where if I...

What's the difference between bicycle disc brakes and disc brakes designed for karts?

Thanks x10, this looks to be a very promising option! :)

What's the difference between bicycle disc brakes and disc brakes designed for karts?

Fabroman, hate to sound like one of those guys who refuses to google stuff on his own, but would you mind linking to an example? I've come across a few cylinder+caliper assemblys on ebay but not full kits like what you've mentioned. I'm not sure of exactly what to search or if eBay is the...

What's the difference between bicycle disc brakes and disc brakes designed for karts?

Thanks sid, the size difference isn't something I was able to notice by looking at pictures online- in fact, the kart brakes actually seemed smaller to me! I'm just desperately trying to find a cheap solution to stop my kart, (obviously bike brakes are not what I'm looking for if I value my...

What's the difference between bicycle disc brakes and disc brakes designed for karts?

Sure, but why? What is the physical difference in the brakes? Thicker discs? Bigger pads? Going only from pictures online, they look pretty similar to me, I'm trying to understand the differences

What's the difference between bicycle disc brakes and disc brakes designed for karts?

Question in title, I guess. Kart-specific disk brake components are so expensive compared to most bicycle disc brake kits, and I've been wondering if the price difference is simply due to supply and demand of a common bike brake versus a special kart brake, or if they're actually significantly...

How would you approach setting up brakes on a kart with a differential?

Wow, that's a wild kart, Ace! Glad to hear that the differential makes a difference, can't wait to get this running.

How would you approach setting up brakes on a kart with a differential?

Well it's considerably later than "tomorrow" (oops), but here's the diff... I've identified the kart as a 2002 Carter 2766TX: http://kartingdistributors.com/pdfs/carterpdfs/2766-3016.pdf It needs a lot of work. The first order of business (besides just scraping and repainting, which I'm...

How would you approach setting up brakes on a kart with a differential?

Yep, it's not visible in any of these, but I know it's there because if you lift up the back and spin one wheel, the other spins backwards :D I'll get a picture of it tomorrow

How would you approach setting up brakes on a kart with a differential?

At work, but here's what I have from the seller's emails. I'll take better pictures tomorrow

How would you approach setting up brakes on a kart with a differential?

Well, picked up the kart today and there is no exposed drive shaft, so a single brake on the drive shaft is not an option anyways. It's got a semi-functional dual band brake system (the rod that connects the two bands is seized up real good), which I will probably fix up and use for the time...

How would you approach setting up brakes on a kart with a differential?

That's what I was originally thinking, hence mentioning "dual discs" in my original post. However, I feel like it would be difficult to sync them up and have them both provide the same amount of braking force to their respective wheels. Putting a brake on the input shaft of the diff, if...

How would you approach setting up brakes on a kart with a differential?

I figured pictures might be necessary, I won't be able to get good ones until this weekend so it looks like I was a bit early in creating the thread... Thanks though, I'll get pics up as soon as I can
