    Beginner Kart...First Build

Not much progress to report. Had to remake the bottom seat, it was too small to get the threaded inserts in without them cracking the edge of the wood, so I re-cut the bottom and was able to reuse the padding and covering so no big loss, just didn't think smart. Final parts order (I hope)...

Thanks for the pics and write-up. You don't need a spring on the pedal?

That's great! It's alive! If you get a chance can you post some pics on your pedal setup? I'm getting ready to start working on that soon.

    My first build

I just read through this thread. That thing is a beast. I see tons of potential with a some paint and a little work on the seat...sort of reminds me of a 1930's hot rod. Your road looks like a drag strip!

    Beginner Kart...First Build

I stripped it down today to weld on it tomorrow - I weighed the frame and it's 35 lbs so almost 16kg. I don't know if that qualifies as a pig or not? He always tells me when the UPS man has visited and if that's all the parts. Thanks. The axle sprocket is 54T and the clutch is 10T. The welds...

The arms are forward facing. Thanks for the compliments! And I'm sure I'll need more parts! I have all the major components on order or here (minus the motor) The only things I will need will be hardware items for the braking and throttle. You're right...building is much more fun than buying...

    Unveiling The Kids' Kart!!!

I absolutely love it! Very nice job putting it together - I can appreciate the effort that went into creating this kart.

    Beginner Kart...First Build

Yeah I know...lol. Lesson learned. I actually thought about the fact that I was going to have to repaint it while I was spraying down the blue, but we were bored and wanted to do something. I also decided to weld on the steering support brackets instead of bolting them since I have to repaint...

Awesome job! I really like it. I'm looking forward to hearing about your brake setup. Post lots of pics when you get it figured out. I'm worried now that when I get mine together I"m going to have to cut it apart.

    Beginner Kart...First Build

Thanks guys. It's not as pretty now - the paint got scratched up a bit fitting the steering and the seat. It was a mistake painting the frame before I got everything worked out, but it's not a huge deal just a little extra work. I got the steering shaft set up and mounted. I cut the tie rods...

    Beginner Kart...First Build

Quick update: more parts arrived and I tried to fit up the steering, but I think my tie rods are too long. I went off the Spidercarts website parts list and it said 13" tie rods, which is what I have but I think 11" is what I need. I'm going to cut some threaded rod tomorrow and see figure out...

    New into go karts

You'll be amazed what some cleaning, sanding and a fresh coat of paint can do for rusty old frames. If you can't get it looking good by grinding and blending with a flap wheel, Rustoleum Hammered finish spray paint hides deep pitting pretty well.

    Beginner Kart...First Build

I didn't grind all the welds, just the ones that will be most visible after it is assembled - and I didn't do that great a job on some of those, if you look close there are a few gouges but the paint did a nice job of covering up most of them. If you grind them flush make sure you prepped the...

Did you get that mini bike as a kit and build it up? Looks great.

The metallic colors look cool. Red would be sweet, I didn't see the green at our local Home Depot. I didn't spend a lot of time cleaning the metal. I just quickly went over it with a flap disc. They are great for grinding, blending and cleaning. Then I wiped it down with some Simple Green to...

Nice! That's a pretty involved project to take on as your first. I'm going to build this one next so I can have one too! Although it's not going to happen anytime soon, the costs to build these is suprisingly expensive if you don't have any old parts laying around- nothing is outrageously...
