I am Florin I am 40 and brand new to go karts.

Last week I purchased a very old and rusty racing go-kart for my 8 years old son hoping to transform it into a slow electric machine to be driven around for the time being.

The go kart was neglected in a barn at a farm for few years, but the frame, steering and wheels are solid and that's what I need for this project. It cost me $150.

I'll get back with a thread with details and pictures, but long story short, I am new to go karts and I got more than what I was bargaining for - a very old rusty go kart to transform into a slow electric kart for my 8 years old son :auto:

I have some mechanical/electrical skills, but not too advanced. I learn fast though :)

You'll be amazed what some cleaning, sanding and a fresh coat of paint can do for rusty old frames. If you can't get it looking good by grinding and blending with a flap wheel, Rustoleum Hammered finish spray paint hides deep pitting pretty well.

Thank you for the warm welcome and for the advice. I just checked Rustoleum Hammered on youtube and I am amazed of the results. I can't wait to take it all apart and give it a new look and feel.
