    Welding again.......

Here is some of my GMAW work. I really need a better helmet, I get so wobbly when I'm welding "blind":

Haha, good eye on the typo. I typically take pride in my grammar, but in a painfully ironic plot twist, I am a laughable typist.

    Welding again.......

Those are extremely impressive stick welds. I can't begin to get start/stops that smooth with stick, they're all cold/tall. That's why I tend to stick to GMAW hahaha. I've got some nice beads to share if you want to start another one of those threads. I'd not be at all offended if you wanted to...

    Meet Project Clam Wagon

Well, I broke the crap out of the kart on Saturday night. Broke the sprocket hub wide open and tore a bolt out of it, stripped about 20 teeth clean off of the sprocket, and ruined the chain. This fix is so cheap! I love go-karts. On order: -60-tooth split sprocket (thicker style for #35...

    No Weld Frame

The operative words in my post were "integral structure." I'm not saying it can't be done, I'm saying it's completely ridiculous and far more difficult than you believe it to be.

    No Weld Frame

To add to all of this, none of the parts you listed (including the bolt-on cages) are load-bearing members of the kart's integral structure.

They're not a terribly low profile tire, they're actually a pretty common(ish) size. I ordered them from discounttiredirect.com

You're comparing apples to oranges, bud. There are totally different forces (magnitude, direction, etc.) on a frame than there are on any of the components you listed, including the roll cage.

    My Cars

I've just finally bought my first kart after reading about them for many years, but I have been an enthusiast of all things mechanical since shortly after I learned to walk. I guess I sort of skipped right over the whole running thing and shot straight for driving... My true love has always been...

Judging by your last post, I wouldn't.

    Meet Project Clam Wagon

Thank you both for the help! Yesterday we ordered a 10-foot roll of #35 chain and a 60-tooth split sprocket from gokartsupply.com. This will change our sprocket ratio from 5.82 with the old 64-tooth unit to 5.45 with the new piece, but I don't foresee that being a big difference. If anything...

    31 Ford Roadster

If that does the speeds the owner claims and does so reliably, I wouldn't be so fast to say it's overpriced. Do I think it's on the high end of the spectrum? Surely I would, but I'm not convinced it's that far off before we find out what's under that beautifully louvered trunk lid.

Our kart currently has a Central Machinery (older Harbor Freight) 6.5hp clone, part number 96549. Does anyone know if this is simply an older Predator (interchangeable with HF part number 69730), or would it fall under the category of basically any other clone? I'm trying to determine which type...

    No Weld Frame

I think this is a great opportunity for you to pick up a used MIG welder and teach yourself the craft. Once you've got it down, you'll be addicted! You can get a used Millermatic 110 on Cragislist for $200 or so if you've got the patience to look. Even if you did use through bolts to hold the...

We bought it with two very spanked tires already on it, so we're burning them off. That front right tire was not mounted ont he rear wheel at all during our ownership of the kart, that wear is from the previous owner. Thanks for the welcome!

    Meet Project Clam Wagon

Hi everyone, I'm Matt. Yesterday, my friend Josh and I drove to Rhode Island to purchase what we thought was an old beater kart with a 6.5 horsepower clone engine in it. Well, after paying $180 for the kart, we did some research and found out that we got a bit more than we bargained for. As it...
