I did lap the valves but I think the hissing sound is mostly being caused by the big end gap on the rings. I'm going to find a set of Briggs .010 rings and have a local shop cross hatch the cylinder and we'll see what happens.

Is it normal to hear a hissing sound coming out of the breather ? I just replaced it and I don't remember hearing this noise before. I can hear it when I'm cranking the engine over. Also, can .010 oversized rings be installed on a stock piston ? If so, it looks like the only rings available...

Understandable. So if a straight pipe is best, what length is ideal ? I would think a longer pipe would increase the amount of resistance flow.

How do they affect the power band on a Briggs engine and why ? Just curious.....

I haven't purchased the rod yet. Why would I need to change springs ? I just did the springs a week ago (stock).

I'm thinking since I'll be changing out the rings I may change the rod to an ARC billet. Is there anything else I should change while I'm in there ? Are there any other parts I need to change th rod ? The engine is a briggs 5hp cool bore.

I'm guessing MMO is regular 30wt. motor oil ?

I noticed today some oil was accumulating around the head gasket and the exhaust gasket so I pulled the head and found oil. It looks like the head gasket (.025 aluminum) is not sealing a small area near the valve area. So now I'm trying to determine if the valve guides are the problem or the...

I thought the air screw on the side of the carb only handled the air/fuel mixture for the idle and low rpm's and the main jet handled the rest ?

New head gasket, intake, exhaust, carb to gas tank, breather. The kart is acting the same way my car does when I get past 115 mph. It cuts out for a second then comes back on.... I'm looking on Ebay for the drill bits. What size range should I be looking for ?

The carb is stock and it does make a lot popping sounds when I get off the gas. Is it possible to drill out the main jet to enrichen the mixture ? The carb is the style with the pull out choke in the rear of the carb.
