lol just learned about the tav 40 driven today as I went for 1st test drive , was a real short one before the pulley went full open and stuck my belt under the studs in the pulley at barely part throttle. Ordered a yellow reverse wound spring, my Murray Kilowatt’s jackshaft wouldn’t allow me to...
I know this is an older post but it pops up on most kilowatt searches so thought I’d try and post a little info, added grease fitting to all pivot points, duromax 440 18hp electric start, a cheap $105 tav40 from Amazon. Upgraded the 1.2 amp charging coil to 6 amp (claimed) dual charging coils...
Plan on keeping the manual disc brake on the rear and put the master cylinder so it ties into the brake pedal and try and adjust it that way for the best braking. Putting a 440 cc duromax on the kart so figured better brakes would be wise. I’m part of a bunch of gray beards buying and building...
Pulled the trigger on the disc brake kit, a master cylinder for the foot brake and a 18” hose with banjo ends, it begins lol!
Thanks again MWKarter for the rim od info!
Thanks MWKarter that would be very helpfull, trying to make sure of the rim size needed for the calibers to clear when mounted, if I decide to do this I'll take pictures of the process for everyone to follow.
Thanks, 320mm front and 340mm on rear that was what I was looking at to keep the front wheels straight, mine has 14.5” on front now and the wheels are angled in badly!
Think you could have did the 340mm on frint and the wheels still been near straight?
Thanks for the quick reply
Been looking at this setup

Figure with a butterfly wheel and shortening the tube the steering knuckle goes though it might be a pretty easy setup and of course some 110mm bolt circle...
I'd love some more info on how you did the front brakes on your kart if you have the time, looks like the Amazon kit I been looking at, but I'd have to cut the end of the arms where the steering knuckle attach's which looks like what you did.
Thanks for any pictures or help
Just got started on my Kilowatt build a 440 Duromax, I'm a big boy so I did a steering wheel disconnect on mine and made it a lot easier to get in and out!
If you don't mind me asking what length shocks are those front and rear?
Thanks
Just took mine out they had no snap ring on them, there was a small wall to drive the bearing against inside the jackshaft.
The diameter's given for the bearing are correct though just no snap ring.
This is the one you need, hope this helps...
