To those people out there that always seem to suggest "just buy a clone" when something goes wrong with someone's Briggs/ Tecumseh/ what ever, please don't. There is nothing to be gained by simply buying a new engine, you'l just end up $100 poorer and less knowledgeable than you might of been of you had of fixed the engine. The engine issues posted here are usually simple things such as carby issues, easy and simple things to fix, certainly things that don't warrant buying a new engine.

Sadly, in this day and age there seems to be a mentality that says if something isn't working quite right just throw it out and buy a new one.

So, to those people on this forum who say "just buy a clone" at the first sign of trouble, I beg you not to, your not helping anyone.

Thanks

Hayden

A true "mechanic" can fix (or adapt) just about anything.
Anybody can replace stuff and takes "0" skill to do so.

"Plug and Play" or "Bolt and Go" seems to rule the day and just makes our hobby all the more boring.

A clone is a very good option for someone that does not have an engine at all. For those that do, get a wrench, for Pete's sake! If I had a nickel for every time I was given something because it needed a bit of a repair that cost me little or nothing but my time, I'd be a rich man in addition to all this junk I have lying around!!!
We as a society are getting awfully lazy, and wasteful, too.

If you can't get an old Briggs flathead up and running again, you need to sell any tool you own and go back to the playstation.

Hey, if you know some of them people off hand give me there number :roflol: :roflol:
Everything i have (bikes/engines) was either fixed or homemade. I even make most of my own tools, apart from drills and the obvious ones. There is such satisfaction involved.

The same applies to cars. I know of cars that are sitting in garages that people brought in to fix and didnt pick up because they bought a new one.

I completely agree... at least try to fix it yourself and if your not sure ask someone. People have gotten lazy and always take the easy way.

amen to that, then all the manufactures cheapen stuff up so you can't even find a quality piece of equipment. i've seen it so many times when something 30 years old is working great but the newer 5 year old piece of crap is shot, and it's all do to people thinking every thing is disposable

As I was standing outside the front door of the shop today I could peer out and see 6 different karts with brand new clone engines, one which we were selling (was cheaper and adds value in a consumer's eye for the engine to be new) the rest were in for repairs of one sort or the other. Its absolutely crazy. I can't say that our sales of Tecumseh engine's haven't been damaged, for that matter Tecumsehs will not be available for ever, I doubt we'll be able to sell Robins or Hondas any better with the average consumer.
