A crack in the cylinder wall could cause you to burn oil, foul plugs, etc...

Yes you are more likely to find a crack in a new clone, but like i said. Replacement warranty.

Overheating any engine is NOT hard, its as simple as not filling it with oil. Which is probably one of the most commonly faults with maintaining an engine. And this destroys the whole engine, to were its not worth rebuilding.

If the crack is big enough to cause you to burn much oil, you would notice it during disassembly.

If someone is dumb enough to run an engine without any oil...

Running it without oil will indeed cause it to build up a lot of heat, rapidly wear every moving part, and seize up. Rebuilding an engine like that would require at least rings, maybe rod, thats about $40 maybe $50. Half the time with these engines you can just get a breaker bar on the flywheel nut, free up the engine and run it till it loses too much compression. But of course if you find an engine that doesn't turn over at all, you should know what your getting into.

you will be more likely to find a defect in a new clone for sure, maybe one time it will just be the block or something, but what happens when theres a defect in the flywheel or rod, and parts go flying?

Running without oil usually scores up the journals on the crank to right? I have snatched a few motors that turned over rough and the crank and rod were shot.

You wont score a steel crank with an aluminum rod. Only if it somehow wears through to the rod bolts and they start rubbing. You can just get the aluminum off with some scotch bright most of the time.

Are you sure? haha. its probably just aluminum that "melted" onto the journal. Or at least thats what its been every time i've seen it.

good call Sideways. I just picked up an old cat minibike that the guy tossed the original tecumseh because it didnt have spark. Would have been worth 500$ fixed up. Iv got briggs flattys on most of my stuff. The only thing they cost me is the fresh paint i put on them :) People toss them all the time
