Was wondering if anyone had any manuals on this? New carb and gaskets and air filter changed the oil. The governor and throttle linkage springs were missing so not real sure how complicated or important they are but just had them rigged to get it goin. I had it runnin but it had no power but sounded good. All of a sudden it died with a pop and now won’t even try! Checked spark thought maybe it was weak changed the coil, nothin. Starter fluid in the carb throat and spark plug chamber does nothing. Fairly new spark plug looks clean a little wet when I pull it. Had the carb off and cleaned multiple times. Didn’t leak down test but did do a compression check had around 90 at 5-10 pulls. I’m bout to tear it apart and check rings, valves and maybe head gasket? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

I Personal would check the valves they might be stuck. But the governor may also have something to do with it.

Was trying not to break it open more than I had two. It was runnin a pull or two and it would fire. Now it won’t even try.. frustrating. Yea I was reading the valves could maybe be stuck. Hopin I could get some info before I tear into it cause not real clear on what I’m lookin at until I get there lol

Yes plugged in pressed against the valve cover. Looks kinda weak but it’s sufficient I guess.

I had a similar experience to what you are saying. I made a post on Facebook and many people told me to check the valves and when I looked the exhaust valve it was stuck open with a bunch of white dust built up in it and I couldn’t get it closed. I sprayed wd-40 in it a few times within 24 hours then I used a wood block and tapped it with a hammer and it wouldn’t budge so I slowly hit it harder until it went down (took about 6 times). Then I left it taken apart and pulled the cord slowly until it came back up and it was still stuck so I gently pushed it with my fingers and I repeated that a few times and sprayed it once more time and let it sit a half hour then wiped it clean and put it together.

it Might not be the same problem you have but it sounds similar so good luck.

Here are some pictures of what I experienced. It was a briggs and Stratton 5hp used for a generator. If you decide to take yours apart send pictures

I’m only 13 years old so I am just trying to help from my experience and I might not be the best help on this site but I have some experience with small engines so hopefully this can help you

Did the engine fire after that? Did you have to replace the valve?
It ran perfect after that. It started on the second pull. And no I did not replace the valve I just tried to use a small pick and scratch away the white dust inside it and kept spraying wd-40 until it moved freely.

It did too. That’s my next step I’ll post later with my findings and pics thank you.
Another thing you could check fairly quickly is, if the flywheel key got sheared.

Take the flywheel nut off and a flash light and see if it's still in 1 piece.

It's been awhile since I worked on a ohv tec, dont remember if they came with a aluminum key or steel.
