For a kart that big and heavy the best reverse I have found is to get out of the kart and pick up the front end and turn it around. Or you could spend about $4,000.00 on a Jeffco or RPM gear box.
I’m thinking about just putting an electric motor for reverse. Seems like a cheaper option.

Something like this:

If you really think that you are going to need it that bad then go for it, I guess.
seems like a lot of extra's for how much you might end up using it. With 4 karts, all similar to yours and a gang of 5 Grandchildren out in the desert, I honestly can't remember one instance where I thought, DANG I sure wish this
thing had a reverse gear. I understand all places and riding conditions can be different. Just saying that if you have everything else ready to go, try it without
it and see if it works out for you.

I have heard the electric reverses do work. But I just always found it easier to pick the front up to turn it around or reach over and grab a rear tire by the lugs and turn the tire backwards. I used to ride in pairs so we always had help if needed.
But after all your money, your choice.

Yeah it’s mainly trail riding on my property. I’ll see.. not in a rush to do it.

I’m in Germany now and have been ordering random parts. I fly back tomorrow and will hopefully continue working on it next week.

Success! Engine fires up and seems to run well. I think the new carb needs some adjustment, but nothing too bad. I’d post a video but not sure how to do that on here. Here’s the video from a 670 owners Facebook group I joined.

I’m very jet lagged so not much work to do today.. I’ll get everything hooked back up later tonight and maybe take it for a ride to see how she does. Still gotta fix that tire leak at some point.

I spoke too soon. Won’t start again. This time it’s not sucking fuel through the line. I took the carb back off and it was full of fuel, but I don’t see any new fuel going through the filter.

The fuel pumps are junk on these engines. I would either replace it with a Mikuni vacuum pulse pump or an electric pulse pump from NAPA. While at NAPA get some Sea-Foam and some Startron by Sta-Brite I believe it is called, fuel stabilizer for alcohol fuels. They together will keep the fuel from turning to jelly. Also get rid of the solenoid in the float bowl in the bottom of the carb. They are known for shutting off the fuel. Performance 670 makes a plug for that. What are you going to do with the old carb? I would like one to experiment with.
Normally I don’t care for snake oils but Sea-Foam, Startron and Marvel Mystery Oil are all products I have had excellent success with. Just add 2 ounces of each to each tank full of gas (5 gallons). It works wonders. Hope this helps, Good Luck.

I took the fuel pump apart and cleaned it. If I take the fuel hose off the carb, fuel comes out. When I put it on, fuel stops. I’m thinking it’s the solenoid. Can I just take the pin and spring out of it?

I actually did put Seafoam in the fuel. Once the engine is running consistently, I was going to put some in the oil and let it run for 10-15 mins before changing the oil.

Appreciate all the great advice

Ok so it seems like it’s good now. The choke was never hooked up. When I manually closed it, it fired up. Fortunately I’d already ordered a new line for the choke so I hooked it up. Starts up normally now. Let’s see how it does tomorrow when I try again.

Now to figure out how to fix the tire leak.

Sounds great! The tire leak will be a breeze to fix. Just probably a little rust on the rim. Just mix up a bucket of water with some dish soap in it so it foams up easily and wipe the tire down liberally and look for the bubbles.

The leak is around the lip. I’ve been watching YouTube vids on mounting a tire, so I might try that.

Ok, I topped off the tire enough to go for a spin. Put the seats back on, fired her up, and got my first ride in.

Awesome news is that she ran. Bad news is after half a block, she died on me. Battery keeps draining, but fortunately my neighbor was out and he jumped me so I could get it back home.

So I have to figure that out. Also have a brake fluid leak that I need to fix.. and the tire.

Ok, adjusted carb.. it runs better. Took it for a spin and got a ton of white smoke. Parked it and found oil in the exhaust. I read that these motors are very picky to being overfilled, so maybe that’s the case. I got on it a lot more than before this time around.

Thats not supposed to be that way, your pcv valve might be toast, find the crank case vent tube and disconnect it from the carb and start it up and rev it, does it spew oil out?

That is not a good sign at all. Frog is right see how much oil is blowing out of the crank case. Might have stuck oil rings or pitted up cylinder bores. Maybe even tore up pistons too.
