Well i've never really done a thread on my kart, and lately its been having a few problems so i figured while i was taking it apart and doing some work i'd post some pics. First off, the engine actually torqued the mounting plate enough to break the welds (not my welds), and then it belt the plate so much that the chain got extremely loose and kept falling off. Also the band brakes on it just dont lock the tires up as fast as they used to, so im planning on using a 1" bore rotor and caliper off a sled.

Little bit about the kart

Its an asuza i guess? got it a while back as a bribe to spend time with my dad, made it into a shifter kart at one point but the engine wasnt big enough. so i went back to the stock 5.5 tecumseh powersport. I also extended the frame by 1'. Its got a comet clutch, and a 6:1 ratio at the moment, but the sprocket is in tuff shape so i'll most likely just get a new smaller one and bring it down to a 5:1. Tires are 15" front and back.

Heres where i reinforced the motor mount, used some small angle iron from a bed frame and welded it in on either side.

heres the caliper off the sled, even has a pressure switch for tail lights.

Rotor, has perfect 1" bore with 1/4" keyway.

And the master cylinder, needs a little cleaning, but functional.

The tec powersport, its new, and it was free so im happy. I also have a briggs flatty that runs i might take the governor out of and use that.

How you going to use the master?
unhook the hand lever and rig it to the pedal?
Or make a set of handle bars to replace the steering wheel lol.
Or butterfly wheel?

I was planning on mounting it so that i could use the stock brake rod that went back to the drum, and just have it pull the lever.

You could probably take the hand lever off, and hook the rod to where the hand lever hooks too, Might simplify it a bit.

Plus you'd hate for the hand lever to break off, not sure how hard the pedal would be pulling on it.

or mount the master in line using a pushrod like a reg master on a car. attach the rod high enough on the pedal so it doesn't bind.

I dont have enough brake line for that, so i figure i'll just use the handle bar and make a pedal stop so i dont over stress it.

Well i put it all back together with out the new brakes to make sure the motor mount is flat and sturdy, seems like it so later this week i guess ill try and put on those brakes. Today im gonna run to the hardware store and grab a half link for the chain.

Well, my kart had a catastrophic chain failure, so i replaced that, changed the oil, extended the bolt slots so i had more adjustability in the chain, and adjusted the brakes so they could actually stop me. I'm on the hunt for a good 440 fan cooled sled engine for around $100, so when i find one ill either continue here or make a new thread for that build.

I also found this while trash picking! I think i may just adopt it as another project, 50cc mac 10-10, extended 1ft, plastic tires, sounds pretty bad *** to me :roflol:

Sorry about the pics, worse than normal...got a new phone and its worse than the last (i need a camera).

35, it was my fault, i never oiled it and ran it in very dirty dusty places, and my tensioner was set too tight that day (not using the tensioner anymore haha).

Well, my workshop is half packed up, so i've been doing little things that i was too lazy to do before. I straightened out the really bent tie rods.

Adjusted my unadjustable clutch, ever since i overheated it while driving in half a foot of snow...on a hill...its been engaging at idle and wanting to take off. So i took it apart and cut off some of the coils of the spring, first i took of 3 coils and it helped but didnt completely solve the problem, so i took another 3 and that did the trick.

I also put the padded cover back on the seat, and bolted down the seat mounts so i dont go flying back every time i hit the gas. I also wire brushed the steering shaft and painted it to prevent rust. I also messed around with different tire pressures, i think i got it just right, but it has a little bit too much understeer so i need to take a bit more pressure out of the front.

Well i just got a major score, 78 or 77 kawasaki kz400 for $40, turns over with great compression, i need to clean the carbs and get some oil before i can try to start it. Its in awesome shape only 8,500 miles, sat for 10 years in a barn though, so its a bit dusty (gas tank was drained before storage luckily. I'll probably try to squeeze this engine in my kart, may be hard though its a twin cyl ohv, fairly big, totally worth it though. Pics later, dinner now.

When/if i do build a shifter kart with it i'll make a new thread, or if a mod wants to rename this thread "kz400 shifter kart build" or something along those lines that would be good too.

PICTURES!

The sprocket is really worn out, cant complain though.

Cost me $40, needs a coil which is another $17, not too bad.
