They add up to be too short. I can add some washers to make up the difference I think.
The front axle spacers are different sizes (not by much), but they add up to the correct length. The wheel is just slightly off center

I don't really know what a thrust washer is. Or when it is necessary to use one. I was thinking I want one to make up some of the difference is the length of the steering tube and the spacing between the "triple trees".

Thrust washers, sometimes called rotary thrust washers, are washers designed to prevent movement along the axis of a shaft.

Thrust washers are used with needle roller and cage assemblies as fatigue liners for soft housing faces. They can help prevent movement along the axis of a shaft bearing an axial load. They can also be combined with needle roller and cage assemblies to form complete needle roller thrust bearings.

They changed the design on the steering head tube. Said bearings weren't needed and they had issues with the bearings in the past.

The seats are made in China and the specs change. So he said to just drill out the holes on the frame to a bigger size. I guess that is the easiest solution. Not thrilled about it.

The rear axle spacers... he said I shouldn't need washers. He said the frame is relaxed and will tighten up when the nuts are tightened on the axle. He said it should only be 1/16", but I'm guessing it is closer to 1/2". I'm going to get some washers.

As far as the bolt for the internal drum brake.. He said cut off 1/4" of it.

Then I'll start looking at mounting the brake caliper.

Since bringing the bike back to the workshop where the tools and engine are makes too much sense, I'm going to bring the engine and the tools to the third floor apartment.

So just like a regular washer, but it spins better? Is it needed for when using for axle spacers or can one use a regular washer. Does it matter if it is next to the bearing?

That's what your instructions say too. Why don't they spec a shorter bolt to begin with?

Page 5 - Step 10 - "adjust so chain is fairly tight with no sage"

Rick made it seem like I want the distance set on the caliper side, and if I was going to use washers I should do so on the sprocket side. Once I put an engine on there, I'll see what needs to go where.

So much extra aluminum. Now I feel I need the 7" pulley to justify the 2" of aluminum.

Dude, you mean the gas cap won't fit? I thought you were getting a new tank anyway.

That is the plan. I knew the gas cap was not going to fit. I could have probably gone with 1.125" Thick aluminum (if it was available) and a low profile cap and gotten it to work. If the gas cap was on the other side of the tank, it would still work. i'm going to look for a tank like that. I've heard they exist. Then maybe I'll have more options.

So do I drill the slots in the engine mounting plate to accept the 3/8" bolts or do I switch to 5/16"???

I ran the 3/8" bit though the holes on the actual engine base. The aluminum has 1/2" holes. I think I prefer to use the 3/8 Bolts with less wiggle room.
I don't know why I thought it was supposed to be 3/8" bolts for these engines. I guess it is supposed to be 5/16"?

Speaking of bolts, I'm going to run back to the hardware store to get 6 bolts/nuts to attach the sprocket to the hub. Hub flange is 1/8", sprocket is 1/4", lock nut is maybe 1/4".

So I need 1/4" bolts, 5/8"- 3/4" long.

Sometimes I can't tell the difference between Navy and Black Pants, so my judge of blue may not be so good.

And how do you feel about touching up powder coat with liquid paint?

Just use the nail polish, jeez. Also good luck finding a 5/8" long bolt at the hardware store, not likely.

I got 3/4" long 1/4"bolts.
I should have known 5/8" long bolts aren't real. I'm always in that aisle in the hardware store.
