Now since I'm engaging at 4k RPM, I think I am going to want to keep the TC in lower gear as long as possible??? Not really sure. Maybe I'll put the yellow spring in the Driven Unit. I have one somewhere.

For fastest acceleration you want to maximize torque to the wheel right?
In drag racing don't you red line each gear? Because more often than not, even though torque is dropping at redline - the torque at the wheel provided by the gear ratio in say 1st gear is more than than the torque at the wheels than if you shifted to 2nd to get back to an RPM with higher engine torque. Often it is only beneficial to upshift before redline if the engine torque has dropped more than 50% from peak. Obviously depends on specific gear ratios and doesn't directly relate to a CVT. But for fastest acceleration, I think I want the yellow spring - or the stock one in the 3rd preset hole.

So what do you think? I plan on playing around with this.
Say I'm looking for fastest 1/8th mile time. This is a topic that doesn't get talked about too much. Maybe Once I get the carb tuned, this will be the first thing I can test.
Try to get 60', 330' 1/8 mi, 1000', 1/4 mi times with different settings. Best I'll be able to offer is GPS from "That Racing Channel" drag timeslip app.

I am not going to put a wheelie bar on this one. Lets see how that works with 4k TC engagement? I did the wheelie bar last time trying to get the fastest launch possible, but didn't really care for it. I like knowing that it could toss me off with the twist of the throttle. LOL.
We'll see how it goes.

Ok, I concede this one.
"ALUMINIUM" is way more fun to say than "ALUMINUM"!
What the heck is "ALUMIUM"????

Here's the 30-Sumthin dollar block of Alumium.
5"x8"x2" Engine Lift Kit to provide clearance for TC.

Just have to mark the mounting pattern on the block, drill some through holes, and get some long bolts.

Do I just drill 4 holes for the bolts. Or do I drill lots of extra holes to cut down the weight???
Should be around 7.8 lbs as is. I think we could do better and still maintain the strength and surface area to mount the engine and help prevent the block from flexing.

BTW....Anybody know how much a 30 Series TC with Backplate weighs?????

It seemed pretty heavy as I carried to my "workshop." It is like a 3/4 mile trip to a friend's where I have garage access, so I walk it when I can. At least until I get the minibike built.

It's like Christmas. Can't wait to go to bed so I can wake up and start drilling holes!!!!

I'm thinking 31 holes. (4) @ 3/8" for the mounting bolts and (27) @ 1/2" for weight reduction.

Should remove 11.5 cubic inches of material from the original 80 cubic inch block. Cutting the weight from 7.8 to 6.7 lbs. Lots of holes for about a pound. I could probably do more holes ...but for a half pound, I don't want to re-design the hole pattern I planned.

I excited about this Swiss Cheese Engine Base!

I decided I may want to make the block smaller.
And I moved my bolt hole pattern to one corner of the block.

This will allow me to cut the block smaller if I want ... and even if I don't, this won't limit the amount of engine Slide I can use to tension the chain.

I made the through holes for the bolts 1/2". Mainly because they weren't perfectly located.

If I get lazy. It's ready to use as is.

I have tonight to decide if I want to let minichopperssocal.com powder coat the frame.

For tomorrow is Mini Motor Bike Ordering Day... It's one of those weird holidays like Boxing Day.

Just had a mimosa to celebrate Mini Motor Bike Ordering Day. Later I am going to urinate into the wind. Wish me luck.

Good Luck EZ^2

I decided on the powder coat option from minichopperssocal unless somebody can convince me not to in the next hour or two.

Next I've got to decide on a gas tank and seat. I think I will attempt to make the seat myself. I think I want a long seat (~18 or 19") so I can sit on the handle bars trying not to wheelie on launches. Should give me something to do.

And I think I'm going with a $5 gas tank for now.

It has been ordered. Finally.

El Lobo Minibike Roller - 6" Wheels - Hydraulic Rear Brake - Powder Coated Banner Blue

On Mini Motor Bike Ordering Day we do shots of Jameson. If you don't like shots of whiskey... too bad, you can chase it with pickle brine.

well I was gonna throw you a pitch on waiting for paint. Only cuz it it were me, I'd end up grinding off powder coat for some reason, and I would be very sad.

However you have advanced planning skills, my brain is much older and suffered much abuse.

So good call, and may positive juju be on your side.

I was worried about that too.
I don't think there is much I will want to modify on the frame/forks. At least until I break it.

It will already have the brake caliper mount welded on. I don't wan't wheelie bars. I let go of the front disc brake idea. I have the engine top plate to bolt stuff to and also a hefty block of aluminum I could bolt stuff to (if I need). If I change the pegs, I'll get some nicer clamp on ones. I'll want a different seat, but that shouldn't require welding. I'll just need to be clever with how anything gets mounted.

Which spring? Which hole?

Hopefully one of these YouTube videos shows me how to preload this driven unit. I don't remember how to do it.

How many turns? i guess I'll watch some videos for a bit.

My plan was to count the degrees of preload, but that plan was thrown away when I took the snap ring off and almost lost an eye.

Hope this is right. Took both hands, a foot, and a knee. But I think it is in correctly.

The spring is a bit thicker than the stock one. Maybe I'll drill the holes a bit bigger. Maybe I'll add two more holes so that my TC Driven has 5 preload options?

That could be 4 unused holes instead of 2!

I imagine having multiple wives isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Anyway, not sure the yellow spring will do what I want???? I might be going back to the stock spring.

So who has an opinion on the Yellow Spring?

Is it too much spring for what I want?
Will delaying the upshift to higher RPMs where torque is lower cause issues reaching max RPM?

I like lots of torque. I like wheelies even when cruising at 20mph. I also want around 7500 RPM and 60-65mph.

I guess I'll have to test for myself. Not sure anybody tried the yellow spring on a minibike and documented the results. I haven't searched too much though. I don't like breaking new ground. I like to "Follow the Innovators"

Still would like to hear opinions about the driven preload and how to tune it for max 1/8 mile time. I even started a thread at OMB.
