Simplicity is usually a good thing. If u have the parts and know how, different is cool. But usually costs more in the end.

so i want to just stick a harbor freight engine on it but thats when the questions come in.

1. i want a harborfrieght engine but naturally i want a bigger engine then the 6.5 so its not slow but the problem is a 13hp or 16 hp engine needs a big torque converter and thats expensive.

so if the engine is $360 then anothe r$380 for a torque converter! thats expensive

Should i just go with a 6.5 with a 150$ torque converter and be happy?
I want to keep this fairly cheap especially since 2 rear rims and tires are goinng to run me almost $200 alone.

Are you guys happy with the 6.5 hp with torque converter.

If i go with the 6.5 maybe i need to put a smaller rear tire on like a 13-16 inch tire. Suggestions?

Something like this could work. You would have to make sure it is a large enough surface area to hold the larger mounting pattern of the 420cc. You would also need to know the shaft size needed for the driven side of the 40 series TC.

There is also a flat plate design that sandwiches between the engine and the mounting plate attached to the kart.

Or you could build your own based on either design?

Yes you will have to have some sort of jackshaft setup. The 40 series that comes with the backplate is crazy expensive.

This is what I am using for my 420cc going on my dingo.

Another stupid question : since this is my first go kart build and all, how would I go about building a mount for the torque converter? I didn't even know people did that. Any ideas? Experiences?

Also sorry for the drastic reduction in updates. MONEY fell short alot of unexpected bills. I am also trying to pay off my anniversary cruise formy wife and I and also pay off her new ring.

Could do what T-man did with his batmobile Tumbler and not run a back plate. He just ran the driven on a jackshaft on pillow block bearings.

Be sure and add a brace or a third pillow block on the outside of the driven, that shaft flex's a lot under load. a third pillow block would keep that from happening.
