So I am going to try my hand at recording a project log of this go kart I got. Its a craiglist special that was $80. I was also given a old yamaha ytm 200e three wheeler that almost died in the woods somewhere.
So Here we go..... Oh disclaimer

So the go kart is at murray outrage I believe. And the three wheeler is a 84ish yamaha ytm 200e shaft drive .

So i pulled the engine out and started on some bracketry!

but i quickly realized that this go kart is a little cramped for a fat guy like me..

lengthening the frame is a must. i am not tall but it was extremely cramped. Exspecially when i add in a shifter and new seat and stuff like that.

also a picture of my drift trike i am not finished with yet.
specs on the drift trike:
6.5hp predator engine
91 ninja ex500 front end
Cut springs in forks
110cc coolster rear end
lawn mower seat.
atv handlebars
various metals
still a work in progress, still needs cables, twist throttle, tires, pvc, paint.....

So I got the frame lengthened. Allot of bracing done. Almost finished welding everything up. Unfortunately I have alot of grinding to do. And I hate having all that crap in the shop.

I see no comments. How do you guys feel about the project so far? Crazily, cool, weird, I'm going to die? Any suggestions or questions?

I want balloon tires on the front and back. No roll cage, live axle, disc rear brake.

My tire wheel bearing is 5/8 inside diameter. Where can I get some bigger rims and tires without killing the bank? Links and stuff would be great.

I know I will probably be going with a 1 inch rear axle or something so should I change the front and put hubs on it? All the hubs I found were expensive. Any ideas?

"No roll cage"....flipping a kart is the quickest way to ruin your weekend...just saying....

Now I have a buggy with front and rear suspension, I try to roll it and it doesn't want to go over. LOL

axle is like 45" ( I think I cut 3" off the 48" shaft I got?)

I heard others say stuff like YD3203 likes to flip over.

Is rolling karts over a common problem?
Is it limited to karts with no suspension?

Just would like to hear others input.

I feel It is crazy, cool and weird. We are all going to die. Don't eat yellow snow. What is the square root of -1?

Jk
Unfortunately I don't have many answers.
Cheap 5/8" bearing front hubs?

Dude...it happens SO quick you have no idea!!
This was just testing a new suspension setup :

Just saying
That buggy will need a new cage for sure. No telling how much more the rest could take from another roll like that.

Rolling go karts is common enough that kids and adults end up in the hospital quite a few times a year and why go karts are kind of a liability now...too many people being stupid on them. It was very common in the mid 90s. http://www.cpsc.gov/LIBRARY/gokart.pdf

Here's a PDF of how many injuries and deaths resulted from go kart crashes from the 1990s.

Got some more work done. I started the suspension out front. Going with the solid axle front end look like on 4wd fords. Still have to make a track bar to limit lateral movement then weld it all up. What u guys think?

I'll see about it. Maybe a hoop of some sorts over the top of the seat. Not really worried about the roll cage thing. This cart is for me not my kids.

On those wheel hubs, what bolt pattern wheels should I be looking at?

Also since the engine is turned, the gear shifter is directly behind where the seat will be. So how will I rig up a gear shifter by any chance?

ytm 200?
But there is sometimes a way to do this with solid core push pull cable.

So I go the track bar on and some adjustments were made. New bolts. Side note nuts and bolts are expensive.

Painted the welds and fresh metal black for some reason lol. So now I need some money to order live axle rear and seat and stuff like that.

The suspension works, tho it is a little stiff.

What do you guys think of making it a dually? I think the rear will have no suspension but bigger tires to try dampen some roughness.

I still am at a lost with the shifter issue. Ideas?

Run your shifter linkage through an "L" shaped pivoting lever, to transfer north/south motion to east/west motion.
