The grape ape looks awesome! Love the look.

As far as the l shaped lever goes, I need to do some research on that. Sounds like a good idea to.

Any pictures of that lever?

Oh I get what u saying ezcome-ezgo! Thanks.

So since the engine is from a three wheeler that was shaft drive, I now have to figure out the gear ratio from then and how I am going to change that to new gears. I am going to mount a sprocket of the tailshaft part, but the actual ratio is goin to be the problem.

Anyone who the gear ratio to a 83-85 ytm 200e? Lol.

I also need to figure of final rear tire size

Run your shifter linkage through an "L" shaped pivoting lever, to transfer north/south motion to east/west motion.

⬆️It's called a bellcrank⬆️

Where your radius arms meet your axle should be a fixed joint(welded solid). As it is now your shocks are all that's keeping the axle from rotating on the radius arm mounts.

What are you plans for steering? If you use the factory steering setup you will get a lot of bump steer.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, I like the idea, just trying to help with some of the issues you are going to run into before you get too far into it

Thank you 8t6bronco! I want these questions and stuff bc of makes my pay more attention to stuff.

I was going to use the stock steering and just lengthen stuff. Now you got me thinking about other options. Any ideas in particular you like?

On I have ordered parts.

Tires and pvc for drift trike
Twist throttle and cable

Pillow bearings for this project
45 inch axle

When using a steering axle located by a trackbar the only way to keep from having bump steer is to have the trackbar and drag link be the same length and be parallel.

A small amount of bump steer on a yard kart isn't going to cause you too much trouble but if you simply extend your current tie rods I'm afraid it will be dangerous.

Go powersports is fast at shipping!i ordered on Thursday afternoon and this morning it's at my door.

I ordered from them 10'' tires for a 6'' rim. This is for the drift trike. Also the long throttle cable came in for it to.

Now I am waiting on pvc, and all the parts needed for the go kart.
I am getting to accomplish this go kart build for a real low price. Alot of the metal used was the roll cage that was too small once I lengthened the frame.

So far I have $80 for the go kart, $30 for( 2) 6ft 1inch square tube and and $20 in welding wire. Then there is the recent purchases of $20 pillow blocks, and $34 for a live axle.

I still have to get rear brake setup, sprockets, seat, wheels and tires, misc.
Hopefully this build can be done for under $700

I use metal supermarkets. They are across the us i believe. I go there bc they are about 45 minutes from the houee and have whatever i need. That did seem high especially sense i got 3 6ft square tubes for $30 about a year ago. But thats probably inflation unfortunately.

I am a little afraid of what diamond plate sheets will run me for the floor of the go kart.....

Question: given the length of this go kart and height, what would be a good rear tire size to go with ? I was thinking 16 to 18 inches.

And i was thinking about the whole roll cage idea and all. And it sounds good, but i probably wont be able to do it bc i dont have a tube bender to do it and i want it to look good. not like a generic roll cage

Here ya go for a tube bender. Does up to 7/8" though and the stand for it is anywhere from $299.99 or $99.99 USD. It has dies for 3/4" and 1" square tubing.

So just got out of the shop. I was able to finish the steering. I think it looks pretty good. Little bit of grinding to do tho. I have alot of adjustable points on the front steering. I am happy with the results. Now again the waiting game for the rear parts to come in.

i like the rear suspension.
even though it will be slightly unbalanced due to being un-independant.. it is better than dealing with every bump in the road.

I was thinking about keeping ig simple with therear withno duspendion, but what would be a simple design for the rear? Just the usual? Cutthe frame and make the whole rear a pivot point? Any suggestions?

You know I've always wondered that and sometimes you might other times maybe not. I haven't seen a definitive answer. Don't think I have seen any on mini bikes with a swing arm. So probably not. But this is just my guess.

Well FR that is an interesting statement, considering this:

I think the rear will have no suspension but bigger tires to try dampen some roughness.

I remember saying that but it still wouldn't hurt to have some suspension for the rear too. I would hate to have a nice go kart but a lingering thought wishing I added rear suspension.

Only time will tell of the design and everything
