How do I make a Go Kart (WITHOUT a Welder)

Just have a garden hose on standby or a few fore extinguishers...unless your in the People's Republic of California, which is a fire hazard of a state then you should be fine.

In fact, yes, yes I do live in California. Southern California, if you would like to get specific. There have been several wild fires around me (almost 5 or 6 in just the past year) and they have traced several small fires (not the major ones but still a wildfire) back to a BBQ mishap, cigarette disposal, and more. It is extremely dry because we are in a drought situation. All around my house are dried out plants and I have no doubt in my mind that they would catch fire in an instant.

I know I could have the fire station on speed dial, however I am not comfortable at all with using a welder because I have never touched one and I do not have a proper place to use one either.

Its funny cause welding was first used to replace bolts or rivets and now you are trying to revert back.

I think a bolted frame can be good as welded, but it will take a lot more money.

Drill bits and bolts aren't cheap. I'd get some rapid tap for drilling.

Harbor freight bits work pretty good on a budget if you use cutting fluid and keep the bits oiled.
Tig welding is really safe as far a starting fires or sparks.

I weld in my driveway with stick/arc, in the garage with tig. I'd use square tube and angle iron for joining in corners.

Need two bolt minimum to keep it rigid on each side so four bolts per corner.

Could use Rod ends for spindle supports. Honestly I'd do some welding just cause drilling would get old.

Obviously the answer does not depend on that, they are just being friendly I guess.

As to that diagram you drew, if you used tall angle iron for the frame rails and less tall angle for the front (one) and rear (two) crossmembers (one on each side of the motor plate) there is no reason you cannot bolt it together. You would not even need as much triangulation as you included. It's a go kart, not a semi trailer, and go karts were even built of wood in the 40s and 50s.

In fact, if you are a good woodworker, the strength-to-weight ratio of wood is better than steel. The floor could be a stressed member, construction-adhesived to the frame rails. It is absolutely doable without hurting busloads of nuns and children.

I'm a master carpenter and woodworker for over 30 years...you couldn't make a pimple on my rear....and I DON'T recommend a wooden kart unless the builder has at least stairbuilding experience...and better yet boat building.

Not one of those links says we NEED a profile location to answer your question. In the first 3, I merely asked PLEASE fill out a profile location. You got a problem with that? (And they all did...) For pete's sake...the first guy was in Australia!

Secondly, making it mandatory wouldn't help...because they would just lie like you did on yours...(you seriously aren't on the same planet as the rest of us)...Or fill out a BS location like IronJohn.

Thank you for the advice. Will be sure to take notes on the number of bolts needed so that the frame will not flex.

Thank you for the advice! I sadly, am not a master woodworker, however, I have created some pretty cool wooden playgrounds for my two parrots Other than that, I haven't done too much woodworking besides little things here and there.
