Hard to find true break in oil now. The manual said use SAE 10w-30. That's what I did. It'll be just fine & after 5 hours I'm changing it anyway lol

Ummmmmm.....NO! Some people use Rotella....Royal Purple makes a true break in oil....for one.....But....the MAIN thing is....non-synthetic! After break in ....synthetic is fine!

I guess I'm mistaken. I'll try some on the next engine that comes.

Not too late now...just run non-synthetic in it for the same amount of time you would have if it was brand new.

I mean really? How much is a couple of quarts of oil compared to an engine???

And the main point is (and might be hotly contested by some) is that the rings won't seat properly and possibly the cam lobes won't wear in correctly...and benefit from the zinc....

I'm still on the fence about using CC's or Tav. Will the CC's rob me of power? The TC's just seem complicated and too much space. But if I were to do two Tav's could I run them both to a single jackshaft then the sprockets on axle or do they need seperate jackshafts?

Don't be on the fence, use the TC's. It'll be like having four engines.

I was wondering when this would sink in....

Yes the two TC' s could go to a common jackshaft and then....(with a live axle) would only require one jackshaft output sprocket and one axle gear....

Or two CC's..same thing...

I'm sorry poboy. Never built a go kart before. I'm used to trucks and cars not karts. So let me get this 100% straight in my head. You have the two TC's going to a jackshaft then on that same jackshaft have a sprocket that runs to the live axle..? I'm sorry for the trouble, I joined to learn

I want to do this. And add a pulley for an alternator on the jackshaft!
BUT I bought a pulley to fit my 1.25" axle.

What size jackshaft do you guys recommend for this beast?
Maybe a 1" shaft (like an axle kit?)? Or is that overkill?

That one almost tricked me lol. It's basically a 30 series with a 1" bore. It's rated for 8hp.

I thought so. It says can work with 420cc if geared correctly, but pretty sure it's a 30 series like you said.

Well.... Ult.Shear Strength = 0.50 x Ult. Tensile Strength

a piece of 1" cold rolled has an ultimate sheer strangth of about 14,500 lb's, calculating the "safe" way.

So you're putting 50 ft/lb's to it, multiplied by gear ratio... 1" should cover it nicely.

Oh wait... The 40 series driven pulley fits a 3/4" shaft right?

I joined by accident. I thought I was signing up for a David Hasselhoff fan club. I figured while here, why not learn about stuff, like how to build scary fast, dangerous stuff!

Thinking bout these two seats: (I'm open to suggestions though). I wanted the black ones at first but then I thought about space and weight. Then I found the white ones and I have them on one of my boats and they're comfortable, cheap, and LIGHT! But I know they won have much cushion on bumps. But the main use for this cart will be pavement, grassy fields, and occasional small jumps. Keep in mine I'll have racing harnesses. So that's kinda gonna be weird with the first seat link.
