i wish there were more builds out there like what I have in my head so I could see exactly what I'm getting into

Yes the fastest I've been is 55-60 on a shifter cart on a short track.

There's the one on Youtube. Other than that I'm unaware of any.

I mean, as cool as it sounds and all, you're well into the cost of just buying a wrecked street bike and running that.

So even with 42 pounds of torque, 3:1 ratio is still gonna be too high y'all think? I'm definitely buying multiple sprockets to test, definitely a 60 but I'm in between a 39,48,50? Any guesses to what would be best? And I'll finish the cart in a month or so and I'll comment a link to the YouTube video or make a thread and put the specs and link there

The 6:1 ratio is just a rule of thumb, dependent on enginew size, tire height, alot of factors. Like I said, you'll have to be the crash test dummy here.

Lol yes. Crazy fast is what I'm going after I want 70-80+. I want it to be a beast, so scary you're scared to put it to the floor. I want it to be the corvette of go karts. And money ain't an issue, go big or go broke 😂:cheers2:

So why wouldn't you just buy a shifter kart and meet all your goals and safety all in one shot ? Just curious.

I think the idea is just to build something ridiculous and borderline absurd. I can dig that lol. I bought a tunnel ram for my truck for no good reason at all lol.

I would start at 6:1 and work up. What is the tyre diameter that you are thinking of? Probably quite big i am assuming. This is why i recomend 6:1 for a start.

Like Jrgunn5150 said, you can only gear your kart for what the kart can handle, not for what speed you think you would like. If you hit that speed with whatever gear ratio works...awesome....if not, then there is not too much you can do about it

22" rear tires is what I'm going with. I'm gonna do the 6:1 ratio to start with and also buy a slightly higher gear ratio. I like this idea cause it's crazy, hopefully an adrenaline rush, and two engines on one cart is sexxxy..

Now that all the warnings are out of the way....

So sexxxy!

6:1 with 22's gives 39mph at 3600 RPM and 61mph at 5500 RPM.
4:1 with 22's gives 59mph at 3600 RPM and 90mph at 5500 RPM
3:1 with 22's gives 79 mph at 3600 RPM and 5500 RPM gets a weak sauce 120 MPH!

You know how to calculate this correct?

What clutches are you looking at?

Wait! One more warning: Speeds in excess of 40 MPH will likely warrant that you get tires that can handle the speed without disintegrating. DOT rated tires are the obvious answer, IMO.

I'm sure there will be more Warnings too.
I'm guessing custom or angled motor mounts will be needed to clear the rear wheels.
Have you measured the swing arm and space between the springs?

yea um 18 hp motors will burn centrifugals like nobody's business if not geared right... i understand what you are trying to accomplish with building something funny/ridiculous, believe me

since torque range is your biggest issue (along with braking, tires, bearings, etc) if you want, I would consider an electric setup because EMs have huge ranges based on voltage vs amperage ratio and the weight of batts. would be similar to these big blocks

i think quite a number of things could go wrong to a vehicle like this going 70+ some of these could be things heating up, down force, hope you know how to build a wing

I do hope you move forward with this project because it is a grey area that needs some questions answered

I'm definitely moving forward. I've stripped the frame down, sanded it, and ordered one of the motors this week. Next week I'll order the other engine and paint. But yes I'm going to use heavy duty centrifugal clutches that have good reviews. I'm going to use 6:1 and a slightly higher ratio. And bearings, brakes, electrical, etc is going to be new all the way to the cotter pins. I'm not just gonna throw this thing together, I'm gonna take my time. And the engines are 18" wide, and the rear swing arm mount is 25" wide. So I have a friend who is a very good welder, so we're gonna fab something up. But angled motor mounts? I've considered it. But I do not see much point unless it's elevated, which it may have to be elevated cause it's 30 something inches on the rack. But fabrication isn't a problem. I did think about lowering the profile of the kart.
