Maybe I should start a new thread just about the wheels. I need a drive wheel assembly and an identical wheel, but 15" tall and wide, preferably! I can't find ANY full assemblies with a 72T #35 sprocket, so I guess I have to assemble one myself, but I know nothing about that!

Using this thread will be fine. It is always good keeping all questions related to your kart in one thread, rather than having several

Ok, new question. My large brake band that came on the kart is bent up. Can I simply replace with with a brake band that is 2 inches smaller (4") without messing things up?

I also need a new pull starter assembly for my Briggs, I'll post pictures of it later so that hopefully someone can identify it and lead me in the right direction.

Looks like the string is broke, There is a way to just install a new string. Check on you tube.
These are pretty simple mechanically and do not always need replaced jist rebuilt.

NO! Just remove the whole assembly; that may involve removing one or two other parts but, at least it won't turn into a major operation...

Ok, I removed the whole assembly, now I'm in the "What now" phase. I can't find a way to take out the pull starter mechanism to replace the cord, and by hand, the "engine part that would be spun by the cord" is just barely moving when twisted.

I do believe you were right in wanting to removing the rivets. then you will need to screw it back together.
Again check Utube for how to replace rope and rewind/retension the pull starter.

I have the same motor, you do need to remove those three rivets.
That would be the same as a predator, honda or Clone where there are 3 bolts.

I'll keep working on it, although my manco is about to sell for $300 cash. I'm curious if I'll be able to just afford a predator after wheels and parts and sell these two questionable engines for parts...

Update on kart:

If you remember, this kart came with HF wheels on the front.

I'm definitely ordering bearings with my new back wheels, to fix the good set of front wheels I got from the guy who sold me this kart. My friend just tried out the exact same harbour freight wheels on a short 5hp live axle kart and they snapped 1 minute after takeoff as he rolled into a fence. He didn't get hurt, thankfully.

Anyway, the surface of the sun is where these $10 harbour freight wheels deserve to go!

Update:

I decided to save the free yet project engines for later and buy a predator 212. So, I went to harbour freight and got one.

I was actually planning on buying the 8hp 301cc, but WOW, that thing is HUGE! At least twice the size of the 6.5! So, I bought the 6.5hp and some sae 10w30 .

I'm not going to remove the governor yet, but o may in the future, it's still not clear to me what the benefits are. I am however interested in hp upgrades in the future.

Now it's time to order the rest of the parts and I should be able to put it together!

The only thing I'm confused about is the chain length, since I don't have any tools for chain adjustment, so any advice on that would be appreciated...

Yeah I passed on the 301 also, all the difficulties of mounting as the 420, and none of the aftermarket lol.

Removing the governor lets the engine rev to it's mechanical limits, about 5500 or so on the 212, instead of 3600. Since it's still making power at 3600, it makes a big difference.

Your motor mount plate should be slotted to allow the engine to slide back and forth to take the slack out of the chain, is that not the case?

No, the engine mount is slotted. But for a 72T sprocket when I'm used to a 60T it just seems like I may need a custom chain length, but I know hardly anything about chains. A generic #35 chain should be all right, don't you think?

As long as you replace the whole brake (including the drum it grips onto) then you should be fine

You can buy the chain #35 really cheap. I have gotten mine from the Chainsaw repair shop locally. Even online it is cheap+ shipping and waiting.
It is not that hard to shorten. just buy more than you need. No problem. It is just harder to lengthen. LOL

So, I have my predator, and today, my Centrifugal Clutch and chain arrived. The chain has a master link in it, and it's 5 feet long, so I totally need to shorten it. I can cut the chain and all, but how do I take off the master link that's already on?

I also got my clutch with two keyway screws, but I'm also confused about that and the shaft. The clutch is the right size, but there's this weird metal bar blocking the keyway that seems to be stuck. Can someone please tell me how to get it off so that I can slide the clutch on??

By the way, all of the parts I need to get this kart driving should be here by thursday next week!

Your clutch has a built in keyway, so you just do not use the removable one pictured on the engine shaft.

What you have is a removable key. Just use a small slotted screwdriver to pry it up. Place the blade of the screwdriver at the base of the key and tap with a hammer, it'll pop right out of the slot.

Thanks, I managed to remove it and the clutch is on.

Do I have to slide the clutch all the way on? Because in that case, the clutch and the sprocket alignment would be about an inch off, and I can't have THAT happen.
