Well, they turned off the water this morning. I got a lot of my yard watered first though.

So as I taking the pump back to near the pond...I spied a newborn ribbon snake sticking it's head up out of the pond. I've got my work cut out for me to catch this little booger.

I bought one for my daughter when she was fairly young, and she loved it. I also had one a few years back I lucked out and caught....(these snakes are quick) ...I knew it was out there, and pulled back some plastic and surprised it after two weeks of trying to catch it. It was full grown and the really pretty Texas blue variant....so maybe this one is too....

I don't know if I'll keep it as a pet, but I don't want to kill it, and I don't want it eating all my fish.

When you mentioned the fish, what came to mind was an ooolllddd Dr.Who episode where the Loch Ness monster was some diabolical alien's pet. At the end of the episode, the alien was defeated, and Nessie returned to the only home she'd ever known..... :roflol: :thumbsup:

Couldn't help myself....went out to check the pond for that baby ribbon snake when I spotted a baby Texas rat snake ducking under a lawnmower. I pushed the lawnmower out of the way and grabbed it.

I just think they are one of the most beautiful snakes when they are babies. It didn't try to bite or musk either....

Hmmmm....I don't really need another snake....:surrender:

EDIT: BTW: That's not the snake I caught, but a picture from a book....and it's head is not right...I'll get some pics of the little guy in a while....

He's the one with the wood chips....

Although the creation of this thread was twofold, in the second sentence of the first post I said I also did it to have a place to ramble on and let people take it or leave it....and I'm in the mood....

Cursing.

Why do we do it and what can we do about it? I'm not just talking about online or even when it's seemingly not inappropriate....but overall and why we do and why we shouldn't....

I'm just going to start with my major malfunction and how I get there and my views on that. With me....it's a trigger of anger, frustration, but ultimately.....a lack of control.....

First, it's the onset of anger, but the common responses are to get defensive and raise your voice....When the issue is still unresolved, then the curse words come out...at first....just to try to put extra emphasis on my points...."I said f'ing (whatever) ....then as the frequency increases....becomes a warning to the person in conflict....."you are REALLY starting to P me off MF"....

OK.... So what's the real issues, triggers, and solutions in this scenario?

First off....using curse words to try to give extra weight to your position is ridiculous. In fact, it shows you are frustrated by your inadequacy to find the proper words and composure to remain credible and civilized in verbal disagreement, and has the effect of weakening your position.

So the solution is to control the urge to take the easy way out ....and remain calm and use the proper attitude and words....and if you are unable....simply concede that your adversary is better equipped to handle the debate...and say instead: " You may be able to argue better than me, but that doesn't mean you're right." And then, carefully re-examine all the points you couldn't defend....make sure you we're really right, (and not just defensive out of emotions) and build a defense for your weak points. In short though, you lost control, and it's more important to break the cycle to eliminate future reoccurring incidents than dealing with the one at hand.

Point being: If we don't stop and examine the reasons and triggers for bad behavior....we have virtually zero chance of altering it.

So....again with anger....cursing is often the precursor to physical violence....It's a way of saying...."You've pushed me past caring about rules or civilization....and you're about to reap the worst I have to offer ".

It's hard for me to say that in this instance it's that inappropriate....although...."I'm warning you for the last time.." should be just as effective....and perhaps more so...because, it shows the person stating it is in control, and therefore, probably pretty confident in his ability to stay in control of the next step.

But....in the end....they mean the same thing....and if cursing is what and all it takes to keep an altercation from violence....OK.

So....the "Good 'ol Boy" cursing....guys get together, the curse words start flowing....pretty soon, it's just a common part of every sentence.

NOW....This is just f ridiculous, bunch of f a hoes shootin the shirt about no fing in paticular....whoops...sorry, got carried away....

"Watch your mouth, we're in mixed company !" Why? Why not watch your mouth in same sex company? Monkey see....monkey do... Rare is the man that doesn't feel some inadequacies and need to be accepted among his fellow man. And the root of this goes back to teen years...when the urge to belong is strongest and the cursing really begins. The real man is the one who refrains....(however, if there's beer or football involved....if you're not cussing,....you just ain't right)....

Finally, there are the worst of the lot....the ones that can't compete one sentence without at least three curse words....."And you fing know who you fing know SOB..." I'm mean really, that just telegraphs ignorance and stupidity, lack of self control, a HUGE lack of confidence in themselves....(and a bit off subject....but often these same folks share the "laughing period ") That is the finish every sentence with ha ha ha.... Why? Because they are the most insecure of all....they are so afraid of criticism for their statements, that the ha ha ha....is their insurance policy against any negative reply to what they just said...they can bail out with: "I was just kidding..." Even when they ARE kidding....they are so insecure that they are afraid no one will laugh....

So....what is the point of all this raving? What? Poboy with a point ?

Seriously, as I said....unless we examine WHY we do things, we have little chance of changing them....so maybe this can help someone....(even if we can just get Pat to cuss less:lolgoku: Jk.

WHAT THE :censored: !!!!!!! :funnypost: JK......

Doug may find this funny, but the #1 reason I try not to swear in public is because of an indecent that happened during the first full week of my career move into on site machine repair....

I showed up at a brand new customers shop to inspect a machine for a quote. They already had a tech from another company working on a much larger machine about 10 yards/meters away, and he wasn't in a good mood. Someone else wasn't in a good mood either. That was the owner, who I had met several times before, but really didn't know.

Long story short, something happened over at the other machine, and the bad stuff started flying (verbally). That's when I found out that the owner refused to tolerate any form of bad language harsher than darn or dang. The offending tech got frog marched out of the building by the owner. His boss had to come and collect his tools.

And I went from just being there to do a quote, to suddenly having a purchase order for the repair of both machines.....

Did I mention that the boss and a I had opened the doors of the brand new business only two days before???? After the tool and die shop that my boss was still half owner of, that was our first totally new account.

And the lesson I learned that day about keeping it clean and polite has paid quite well in the almost two decades since, especially when I started to deal with the front office's of large corporations.

If you need to enter into the hallowed halls where the suit's and dresses of the people you are there to see cost more than you make a month, the best way to cover the fact that you just finished tearing down the transmission of something on their shop floor is to be polite and to have your facts in writing in front of you. A class in public speaking, taught by a real pro is extremely helpful as well.... :lolgoku:

What'd I miss?

The politest way to put it is that Doug spazzed last night, and got banned for awhile. I got off the phone with him about an hour ago, and while I don't agree with what he posted or why he did it, I can say he's going thru a rough spot at the moment.....

I just hope he pulls through it.......:surrender: :surrender: :surrender: :surrender: :surrender:

Well I am just gonna say it. This forum would be very boring without ol Poboy around stirring the pot. Yeah he can be gruff, and rude and offensive and likes to instigate stuff. But that IS part of this particular forum: "Poboy Kartman" He just is an integral part of the daily forum. He is also a very good guy after you get used to him. And he adds humor beyond most peoples heres ability.
Banned for a Month!!! That seems ridiculous. I have seen way bigger Drive by Jerkwads get a few days for worse than I read recently from him.

I really wish I didn't have to expand the shame, so I'll leave it at this: the thread that got him starts "I hate......................"

Yep I read it,
and unless the moderators removed an offensive post. He just stated some facts, That are true. Although this is not the forum for Immigration Policy, He did not swear, personally attack anyone. or Mention Politics or Religion. So I stand by my statement 30 days seems extreme!

Well Eric;

This forum is indeed very different without Doug;
I really like him being around, I actually like him -in an odd masochistic way perhaps-,
but I do.
But I like his Jekyll better than his Hyde ;)

And being Doug, he can get ... uhm how do I put it.... discomforting.

Anyways, Robert has to take care, great care of what's being said in here and tolerated and what not.
It's his responsibility to run this forum.
And sometimes that's just no fun at all!

I can't tell how this 4 weeks have been put together,
IDK, and frankly I don't even care.
But yes.. that post as much as I disagree with it.. 4 weeks seems harsh;
I ran a forum myself for eleven years;
I know that sometimes you need to take the big bat to hit the ball.

If Robert thinks that's justified, he'll have a reason for that.
Maybe an added bonus (because it's not the first ban Doug has seen)
maybe there were some private messages involved that have had unpleasant content.
Again, I don't know.. and I do not need to.

Anyways;
I wish you all the best Doug to pull through whatever it is you're having to deal with ATM;
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, honestly!

Until then; we'll be here waiting for you :D

Some of his posts were deleted too, so you will not be seeing the whole picture. Not that it is terrible, but just to let you know that you guys don't see everything

^^^J_Walker is dead on right.

While I agree with most everything he said, I do also agree that there is a time and place for those things.

Here is not that place. It's in the forum rules. That's why I try my best to fall in line.

Although I wish "No Drama" was in the rules too. There's a LOT of that here, unfortunately.
