I posted a pic of a similar machine on page five I think. It very similar but ours has a four inch belt.

I just want to get fixed up so I can get my kart finished.. The sooner the better dude. Only got engine and linkages left. And then this happens just my luck ....:censored:

I got to to say...... why oh why were you not using any gloves, on basically what can be easily called a meat grinder, that just happends to cut steel.

At my old job in the machine shop, we had one that had a 12" wheel at the back for drive, and a 6" flat rubber for the front, 6" wide belt, overall length was about 5' long, needed to give the machine about 20-45sec to get up to speed.
I never use the belt sander with out gloves period.

I built a bike and a whole host of other work related projects, and have all of my parts together, unscathed by the belt....

Glad to hear you lived to tell the tale, I just hope your able to use more than a pencil to type with, later on.

I know what your saying mckutzy.....I was using rubber gloves ( I know I might as well have wore nothing ). But my boss has a strict policy of NEVR EVER EVER EVER wearing loose gloves on a rotational machine. Even though mine were tight on they can still snatch and drag you in..

:iagree: This is a bit of a grey area; we're always told to use the proper safety equipment but, in this situation, it can be more dangerous to wear gloves; it's a bit like wearing a necktie while running a lathe (not that any intelligent person would do that) or having loose long hair while operating a rotary buffing machine (yes, I've done that...)

Does the amazing fabroman have a ponytail. (Not that there's anything wrong with that). and that's what my boss said dude. No gloves but i didn't get dragged in via gloves I must have slipped in. I don't know. My friend had a accident a year or so ago on a geared pillar drill inwich involved ripping has overall sleeve, jumper sleeve and tee shirt sleeve off. It was a good thing he left his watch in his locker. He lost a fair bit of skin but no breaks..

Not any more...

Cheers dude I just need a couple of weeks I don't know what was worse, the accident or the cure ( popping my finger back and splinting it )

Oh yeah, the cure is much worse; think about it, did the linisher say "Hey, I'm gonna mess up your hand in a minute"? No but, the doctor did...

Never say never. .....I still can't believe I've stuck my finger in a tablesaw blade twice!!!!!!

And if you do. .....it WILL be bloody......

But I just put bandaids on and went back to work. .... (even though the second time took quite a bit of bone with the flesh.....)

What can I say? ??? Must be the pony-tail!!!!!!

No.....I was actually born south of Jim's current hometown. ....in San Antonio Texas and moved to the DFW area when I was 13.......At that time we lived in Benbrook Texas.....on the southwest side of Ft. Worth. There is a Lake Benbrook which was about the only reason there was a Benbrook... (except for the now gone airport. ....that Vernon Castle died at....)

Back then....there was the police station, fire station, barber shop, 2 bait shops, a post office, a grocery store and a Dairy Queen.. (restaurant).

That was about it. .....you didn't have to go far to find wild land in any direction. ....at the end of my street. ..you could see Benbrook Lake dam...

So after I grew up and left home is when I moved to White Settlement. ....wasn't too much here back then either. ...And even though I could see Benbrook dam from my street....it wasn't feasible to walk to it....I can't see the lake from my street....but it's totally possible to walk to Lake Worth from my house. ....maybe 1/4 mile or so.....

You live THAT close? I love fresh water fishing. I'd have to make a go kart that would float, so I could drive down there to fish, and drive right in at the boat dock.......:stir:
You're pretty lucky. I have a couple small lakes about 15 minutes drive from me, but I think they were just designed to drown worms and such. I've never caught anything at either one......
